So glad Leah is not in the top 10!
I'm with you on that one, I would hate to name my child something that turned up on the list. I would hate for my child to always have to be called Noah J. in school. What a drag.

Re: Top Baby Names REVEALED!
We aren't on it. We almost named DS Michael (after my late FIL) but decided we would use it as his middle name. My brothers name is Michael and in HS he was known as Mike G...he had 3 other friends named Mike. He even called my house one time (after HS) and my DH asked who it was and he said Mike G

I have loved the name Isabella since I was 14 years old. It was not even on the charts as being in the top 1000 then. Now it is up to the 4th most popular name...
Honestly, I would have named my DD that even if she was #1. This name is special to me....popular or not... My little Bella I dreamed about her for years

Re: Top Baby Names REVEALED!
I like "different" names. The kids in my family have different names but not off-the-wall. I want it to be "her" name, not "Leah C." or "Leah #8" growing up.
ETA: I was "Katie G." for a loooong time - until there was another "Katie G." so then I became "Katie Gil..."
and even at my last job I was Katie in Accounting ... can't I just be KATIE!?!

You know what...if you love that name and its on the list WHO CARES!!! Enjoy the name and love it, I hope no one thinks I was putting down any of the names that are on the list, because I wasn't. None of those names appealed to me when I was choosing them...but if one did, I would have used it anyway!!!

Hey if your name is on the list and popular it makes it easier for us to buy toothbrushes and license plates with their name on it

I hope I didn't offend anyone by being glad DD doesn't have a "top 10" name. I just like being different and I am glad I am not in a trend

Oh so Abigail "didn't appeal to you!"
Actually, my ILs showed me this list last week and it was alongside the Top Ten NY names--there were actually some differences. For example, Abigail is not even on the NY list; in fact, even my pediatrician said (when he asked what the baby's name was), "Oh, that's not a name you hear every day." And he would know as a baby doc, right?
Anyway, I was trying to go for more original, but if you like a popular name, you like it...must be popular for a reason!

Re: Top Baby Names REVEALED!
I love my DD's name no matter how popular it is. It could be #4 or#20,004. As a teacher I wanted a name that wasn't the name of a student I had. Honestly, I've only known one other Isabella.
Well, if DH had his way, she would have had the 2nd most popular name.

Re: Top Baby Names REVEALED!
Andrew was not a top 10 name when I named him 3 years ago. Oh well, it doens't bother me, I'm actually flattered its become so popular...
Lauren isn't there at all. I like her name

That is SO sweet! I dreamed of having a daughter named Ashley Nicole.
Andrew's #8 and the corresponding girl name -- Hannah is what I would like to name my daughter due in September!

Re: Top Baby Names REVEALED!
My youngest is Matthew and I knew going into it that it was in the top 10. In fact when I was pg with my DD is 2004, it was on my list of boys names but I nixed it bc everywhere I went I saw those storks on lawns with the name Matthew. It was a moot point anyway bc I had a girl. But this time around we found out the gender and we went back to Matthew and just couldnt come up with another name that we loved as much. I always liked names that were not unique but not at the top of the list - both my older kids . Everywhere I go there's always another Matthew but I don't even care, it's funny. I guess when you fall for a name, it ends up not mattering.

Re: Top Baby Names REVEALED!
Unique is good, but it was a bummer when I was growing up since there were no pencils, pens, license plates, buttons, paper, etc that said "Doreen".
I was sure "Jack" would've been on there. Every kid in the park seems to be named Jack these days.
