train accident
https://www.yahoo.com/news/3-people-killed-train-vehicle-collision-long-island-022440048.html
I never understood the mentality of someone in a car thinking they can beat the train across the tracks. Sad that 3 were killed.

Re: train accident
Yeah what an asshole. And now 200 feet of track and platform is damaged. The only people I feel sorry for are the 2 passengers and everyone on those trains who may have been injured at worst and hugely inconvenienced at best. And today, a disaster commute for everyone.
That's the mentality i notice a LOT on long island though- rush, rush, rush. I am in SUCH a rush I can't wait 2 minutes for a train to pass, let me go around the gates.
I am in SUCH a rush I have to drive like a total moron on the LIE and speed, weave in and out of lanes, and tailgate. I am in SUCH a rush.
How about leaving earlier? How about not being an asshole?

Re: train accident
I can't wrap my head around it either. I could never be in such a rush that I'd try to beat a speeding train at a crossing.
My co-worker said they need better barriers I think people need to use their brains.

I feel terrible for the poor families of those who got hit -- imagine it. All over the news, the comments, etc. It is horrific. And to be the parents of the driver, who must feel responsible for the other 2 lives. Just horrible.

Do we know who the driver was? This morning I heard they couldn't be identified?

It was a clear night so as you stated they just needed to use their brains.
It’s such a shame and the impact is so horrendous that they haven’t even said what type of vehicle was involved bc they can’t easily identify it.

Not yet -- but im sure the families know. If 3 people who were together and driving in that area did not come home last night. Part of me thinks it is minors because A) they did something very stupid and B) nothing has been identified. Horrible no matter what :(

The car was actually hit by one train and pushed into the path of another training going in the opposite direction. So 2 hits. The vehicle is probably in a million pieces if I had to guess.

Not that it should matter, because I cannot ever imagine going around closed gates like that, but I think they saw the one train stopped at the station that was blocking the view of an oncoming train from the opposite direction (If I understand it correctly?)

I think nothing has been identified because from what I heard they can't identify them. Or the car. It was hit by not one but 2 trains. There is pretty much not much left of anything and homicide is investigating to work to figure out the identities. I was just curious why you said their parents- I thought maybe you knew it was kids, but yeah that would be my guess however I see plenty of grown ass adults driving like morons too so who knows...

Very true. Just horrifying. I wonder if any of the witnesses noticed the make/model/color of the car.

train accident
I have actually seen this one time. It was a woman in a large car. She drove around my car and another car. Went through the gates like she was in the fast and the furious. She narrowly escaped the train. I still can see her face. I was thinking she had to be on drugs.
I feel for the passengers in that car. Because who ever was driving decided to do this.
Another quick story... When I was younger my high school boyfriend had his friends in his car and his friends were encouraging to go fast in his car. We were doing over a 100mph on Sunrise highway at night. I was yelling, crying and screaming at him to stop and slow down. afterwards, I remember slapping him in the face saying God forbid something happened or jumped out in front of us we could have been killed.
I still think about that night.

Stuff like that scares the shit out of me. When you aren't in control and your life is in someone's else's hands and they are playing Russian Roulette with it. It's awful and terrifying.

Because Long Island has the biggest amount of asshole drivers and assholes in general per capita. It's a known census fact!

They said the operator was literally fleeing from the front of the train as the concrete platform came crashing in. Terrifying!

I read that too and he grabbed a passanger along the way. I can't imagine the images that are playing over in his head. Wonder if he will ever go back. for him.
