Traveling in cabs with a 1 year old ...

Whats the etiquette? We plan to be in the city a few days a week this summer and I'm freaking out about his safety.

Do I need a stroller, if we're not walking much? If I do need one, do you bring a very lightweight one you can carry in one hand?

We are also going to Boston in a few weeks and we will be taking cabs everywhere.

Fill me in, please.

Carseatlady (Alisa Baer, a NYC pediatrician and CPST) has a great write up on using taxis. Long, but very informative. http://www.thecarseatlady.com/taxis/using_taxis.html

I'd do the subway before taxis in both NYC and Boston if you don't want to bring your carseat everywhere.

Boston cabbies are insane. My dear friend's dad was almost killed in an accident with a Boston cabbie.

As for strollers, I routinely use our Volo since it has a shoulder strap when we're in NYC

he's 34" tall, and has been out of the infant carseat for a while now... and I really hope you don't mean carrying the convertible carseat Chat Icon

You can pick up a Scenera or Coccoro that are lightweight.

Or take the subways and buses and walk.

An adult seat belt isn't going to fit a 1yo 34" child properly and leaving him unrestrained is not a good option either.

How much does he weigh?

Do you still have your infant seat? Is he more than 1" under the shell?

Do you know where you'll be traveling in Boston?
