Traveling with a 5 month old - what to bring
We are going to AZ at the end of the month and DS will be 5 months at this point. I'm a little worried about the plane ride, and what to bring to the hotel ect.
Anyone have ideas on "must-haves" to bring. DS is a pretty easy sleeper he'll fall asleep in anything so I'm not worried about this, but do I need to bring a pack n play? Also, since we will be renting a car does anyone know about the car seat situation?

Re: Traveling with a 5 month old - what to bring
We just got back from Jamaica last night, DD is 6 months. i would def recommend buying your DC a plane ticket. We got really lucky because the plane wasnt full so we brought her carseat on so she could nap in it and was in her little own comfort zone. Make sure you have a bottle for her or pacifier for landing/taking off I would def bring your own carseat for the car there
other essential items, tylenol, orajel, thermometer.... oh boy i have a list i can email you that i used for packing ;0)
ETA: just wanted to add that it was the best VACA ever, and I def recommend taking your little one on a vaca so early on!

Make sure you pack more formula than usual (if you ff) since the dry air on the plane makes them drink a TON!
I just brought the snuggle nest for DS to sleep in at that age. He slept in the walk in closet in our room!

for the plane - we did a gate check for the Maclaren stroller and carseat some little toys to play with fed him taking off and landing (well, he was sleeping when we landed so that worked out) paci was a lifesaver
Does the hotel have a crib or pac-n-play? also request a highchair. Bring extra sheets and blankets lots of diapers formula anything else if you run out you can get at stores there also, someone recommended an overnight on the plane at the was a good idea we had him in his PJ's on the plane and when we got to aruba it was hot so had a onsie underneath and kept him in that baby bjorn was great too used that at the airport and when I carried him through security
have fun

No - you can use the carseat without the base. One less thing to carry!

Re: Traveling with a 5 month old - what to bring
Just went away with DD but she was 4 months and we drove. Not sure how much you want to carry, but I brought my pack and play and was really happy I did. I was a little skeeved by the portable crib that the hotel offered and glad I had my own pack and play for her to sleep in.

I didn't use the carseat on the plane. We checked it at the gate. I used it in the taxi and there's a slot to put the seatbelt through.

I used the Graco snugride and there was a way to thread the seatbelts through places on the carseat to secure it.

Yeah I have the Chicco and I see there is a place to thread the belt through it...thanks for the advice!
I would like to just check the carseat though b/c I feel like I'll be overwhelmed with everything I'll have to carry. I'm thinking I'll just wear DS in the baby bjorn getting on/off the plane.
