traveling with infant questions
Hi-
Taking DD ( shes 5 months) away for the weekend
I have a few traveling questions..
can I carry on the breast pump or will I have to check it in?
What did you use for DC to sleep in while away?
Can you carry on the carseat if you didnt purchase a seat?
What are the chances of us getting a seat even though I didnt reserve/pay for one
any other tips/advice would be appreciated
Thanks as always, Kerri

Re: traveling with infant questions
I can only answer a few of your questions
I have no idea about the breast pump
DS slept in a pack n play provided by the hotel, we requested it in advance
We were able to bring the infant seat on b/c there was an empty seat in bewteen us. They may make you check it at the gate before boarding if there is no seat available, not sure though.
Get to the airport early to get your seat assignment and try to get a seat for DC
We checked our stroller at the gate
Make sure the baby has something to suck on during take off/landing
HTH! Have a good trip!
ETA: I brought my own sheets for the pack n play

I don't know about the breast pump, but I don't see why not.
We used a porta crib that DH's aunt brought for us, when we go on our cruise in January he will be in a crib RCL provides.
We didn't get a seat for him and we did not get one once we got there. We gate checked our car seat and stroller, we are doing the same for our cruise in January.
HTH! Have fun
ETA: I think if you get an open seat, you will be able to carry on the car seat, if there are no seats you will gate check it.

Re: traveling with infant questions
Any feeding items they allow you to carry on but no water- that they will provite you may not bring your own. The car seat unless you have a set must be checked. I had a travel system when DS was smaller and I used it to get to the gate- while I was getting him ready to get on the pane a steward came to tell me that there were empty seats and to save the carrier because they would get me a seat next to a free seat so he could be in the carrier but that was the only time that happened to us! Also remember to have the baby drink while you are going up(actually a little before) and landing the pressure changes can really hurt their ears and drinking will pop them! DS sleeps in a pack and play. I felt more comfortable bringing my own baby towels and wash cloths- I don't know why the hotels are clean but for him I wanted my own stuff. I also- and don't kill me ladies used benadryl it was a 12 hr flight and I could not bear the thought of DS being miserable and I not being able to help him. So for his sake and the sanity of the other passengers I used it and he was an angel and had a great flight. We travel often and the one time on a short 2 hr flight we did not use Benadryl he was a nightmare!!!!! He screamed so much he lost his voice and I cried because he was miserable -so let me just say I though it helped, but I did a trial run since some kids do have opposite reactions to meds like that and a hyper baby is not what you need on a flight!
Have a great trip!!!

Re: traveling with infant questions
I just flew to Oregon with DD (she was 14 months old).
I did not purchase a seat for her and was lucky enough to get an empty seat for her both ways. If you get to the gate with the carseat and there is not seat available, they will check it at the gate.
Go to the person at the gate counter and let them know ASAP that you are hoping to get an empty seat for the baby. Then keep letting them know (politely) that you are still there. They are so busy up there that they may forget your request. I just kept casually walking within there view and making eye contact. They are used to it and willing to help parents out.
You can take your stroller with you to the gate and they will check it for you there.
I used a pack-n-play that my sister borrowed from her SIL so I didn't have to bring one with me. If you are staying in a hotel, ask them if they supply them but take your own bedding. If you are staying with someone and they live in a large enough town/city, you may be able to find a place to rent a crib.
I was really nervous about traveling with DD and found a lot of helpful info online. I don't remember any of the sites but I just "Googled" for info.
Enjoy your trip.
