Traveling with infants-rental car questions...
We are flying in a couple of weeks and have to rent a car when we get there.
How much do they charge to rent a carseat from them?
Also, this really bothers me. I would much rather have her in her own but I know this isn't possible. I feel like it's going to be germy. Anything I can do?

Why not bring yours with you? We just went to FL and we checked DS's carseat with our luggage...picked it up with our luggage and used that in the rental. Is this a possibility??

We really should but we already have to bring the stroller and the pack n' play. I guess it's a thought. We are still using the travel system but I can get the Britax out.

Re: Traveling with infants-rental car questions...
We went to Oregon with two car seats, PnP, laptop, 3 or so checked bags, and a carry-on for each of the 4 of us....
Not easy, but definitely doable.

They don't charge for the carseat, you just have to request it. I did it once but I wouldn't do it again. The choices were horrible-cheap, uncomfortable or dirty. we went through all of the options before finding something usable. I didn't realize this at the time but you also don't know if the seats are expired or have been in an accident. Who knows if they're safe. Its not worth it, I would bring mine.

Re: Traveling with infants-rental car questions...
I wouldn't do it with an infant. My SIL rented one and there was NO way it would have fit my neice who was one at the time, it was way too big!
If you are using the travel system, just pop it in the stroller and gate check it, that's what we did when DS was 3 months old.

So I would leave the carseat in the stroller and they would check it like that? Without collapsing it? Forgive me, I've got a pounding headache.
So I would check the base separately?
Should I label these items?? TIA.

You'll have to separate and collapse them at the gate, but you'd have both pieces available to you as soon as you deplane. you'll want to label everything...
When we went to TX with DD, we just took the seat, and strapped it into the car without the base.
GL!!

The base isn't too bulky, maybe you could pack that right in with your luggage. The car seat and stroller will be checked right before you board the plane and will be waiting right there when you deboard so that you can put the baby right back in.

We had all of those items too. We checks the pnp with our luggage, and we brought the infant seat and base (put together) and checked that with our luggage too. The only thing I gate checked was the stroller so it was waiting for me as soon as we de-planed. It worked out really well for us. They put the infant seat/base in a big bag with our information on it. It really isn't that bad...but I know it can be stressful planning!!

Re: Traveling with infants-rental car questions...
We just flew to San Diego and we brought DD car seat. It is like 10 to 12 dollars a day to rent the car seat, so it can get expensive.
I would gate check it so you have it when you get off the plane If you check it regularly with your luggage and something happens with the luggage you won't have the car seat. Gate checking you will have it as soon as you get off the plane in the jet way.

I'm sorry! I can't get on at work
Anyway, you just take the car seat out of the stroller and fold up the stroller and they will take it from you. When you get off, it'll be waiting. When we came back from our cruise, it was opened for us b/c the flight attendant had twins and wa sbeing nice
We never brought the base, you can use the infant seat without it.
I put luggage tags (the laminated ones) on both when we went to Florida last summer, can't hurt, right?
ETA: I'd gate check the seat. When my SIL came to visit us here they flew from Baltimore to NY and checked their infant seat (my neice was 6 months at the time) and Southwest sent it to the wrong place It got here quick enough, but it was a major PITA for a few hours!

Re: Traveling with infants-rental car questions...
As others have mentioned above, definitely gate check the stroller and car seat (you can strap the car seat right into the rental car without the base). You may even luck out and have a seat for the baby. Often, when checking in, they are able to block off the center seat between you and your DH for the baby. You will put her in the window seat but at least she will be strapped in! We have flown many times with DS and have been lucky enough to get a seat for him every time without having to pay for it due to empty seats being available at the time we checked in. You just have to ask We even flew first class once and was able to put DS in his own seat with his car seat. Of course he was only 3 months old so he won't remember but we have great pictures!

Can you mail or UPS the other stuff to yourself at your destination in FL so you don't have to bring it on the plane? I say bring your own car seat
