Treatment in luxury stores
On a post over on Fashion, 2 posters mentioned bad experiences in luxury stores.
I have only been to Bergdorffs (as an intern..picking something up). That's been it. I'm curious as to experiences in such stores. I feel like the treatment should be very good (as far as customer service).. But now I wonder.
I worked in a higher end store years ago but nothing very high end like LV or Chanel. We had client books and everyone was treated well no matter what. No snootiness. I think if that was ever done, there'd be consequences for treating our guests poorly.

Re: Treatment in luxury stores
I've never been treated badly - I have gotten attitude .......it immediately stops b/c I find someone else to help me - I refuse to give a commission check to an a$$hole - refuse.
My attitude is "I am SPENDING money here, YOU are working here for a paycheck ........so WHO exactly are YOU to be looking down your nose at me? For all you know I could have a trust fund the size of China"

Treatment in luxury stores
That's what I don't get. I think it was diamondgirl on the other thread that said like.. How could the worker look down on her when the employee wasn't rich enough to not work herself? (Paraphrasing). Which makes sense.
I guess I'm just surprised. You'd think they'd want to make a sale and butter you up!

Re: Treatment in luxury stores
I've only been to Barney's once. I was in high school and went there with my friends and my mom. My friends and I were walking in the make up section and I wanted to pick up something, the woman said it was too expensive for me and would not sell it to me. I had wanted to get the moisturizer for my mom who had given me the cash for it. She was elsewhere in the store purchasing something else and we were in a hurry. Well, I walked back to my mom with cash in hand and told her what happened. She stopped her transaction too. I have never been back and to my knowledge neither has she.

Treatment in luxury stores
When DS was a newborn I used to take him for walks at the Americana. Well I would always just go into stores and window shop (drool). 90% of the time I would be in sweats because at one month post partum there's no way i was putting on jeans!! I ALWAYS got the side eye and usually was ignored in every high end store. For all these people know I could have a wad of cash in my bag ! Very rude.
DH told me years ago when we were dating he went to LV to buy me a wallet. The girl said in a snooty voice that the wallet I wanted was $400 and he said no problem and pulled out his money. He claims her jaw almost hit the floor.

Treatment in luxury stores
I have definitely experienced racial profiling. To the point I once walked up to said person at LV and gave her my card-in case she wanted to upgrade her job. I dont look down on anyone but that chick had it coming. It was also nice to have DH buy my Alma with the help of her coworker as she watched.

Re: Treatment in luxury stores
I don't get dressed to go shopping. So I'm usually in yoga pants and a zip top (Something to get on and off easily while trying on clothes) and when I go into high end stores, I get nasty looks. I've asked questions and been given straight up attitude replies. Never "you can't afford to shop here comments". Just not treated well.
I'll stick to NY&Co and the outlets. More "my league" I guess

Treatment in luxury stores
I would say in most high end stores and some boutiques i go to i DEF get sized based on appearance. I am usually put together even to just go shopping but i def have felt the sideways glance. I get ignored.
And i also see nice salespeople but mostly snotty

Re: Treatment in luxury stores
I shop in luxury stores and when I was younger I would be very intimidated especially at the Americana Manhasset. Now I have more confidence, and also have established relationships with the employees that work there. I have recently become friends with an employee at Bergdorfs in nyc who works for one of the most coveted brands in the world. I have met her coworkers and now are friendly with them when I go in to the store. Its all about forming relationships.
Yes i have had my fair share of snotty salespeople, Barneys has tons of security and snotty sales people. Happened the other day at bloomingdales, and I got confrontational with the salesperson because she was being B*tchy

Its all about forming relationships.
You should not have to form a relationship to shop. If a sales person is snotty or profiles a client they are failing to do their job well. It is the sales person's JOB to treat the people shopping with RESPECT.

Re: Treatment in luxury stores
I don't shop in them and feel like I'm probably not missing anything.
I also agree that it's completely ridiculous that I should have to go in to any store with the mindset that I need to "form a relationship" with a salesperson in order to be treated nicely.
If I acted like the way some of these salepeople do, at my job, I would be fired.
And rightfully so.

Re: Treatment in luxury stores
I used to work at Versace when I was in college. I learned very quickly not to bother trying to judge shoppers and just help everyone who came in. We had well dressed woman who tried to shoplift and teenagers who would pay in cash. We worked on commission so I helped everyone and just hoped they would buy something in the end.

Re: Treatment in luxury stores
I just love the fact that people who are working a job in a retail store have the utter balls to look down on anyone. Really? You WORK for the store, you don't own it. I don't even shop in those places but I probably am making double what you make. Get over yourself.

I look very young, so I get treated like a teenager Even though I make much more than the salespeople! I definitely faces this car shopping. When I went during work dressed in a suit, it was a much different experience when I was in jeans.
