Trip along the California Coast
In early stages of planning a trip for the summer starting in San Fransisco ending in LA. Any advice for places to stop, must see's along the way.

I've been looking to do this for a while now. And every one in a while will do a google search for ideas. You get a ton of options from people who've done it before.
I found these 2 a few days ago that look great and are pretty detailed.

I agree.
I'd stop in Carmel and Monterey. Also Hearst Castle (pretty sure you need to buy tix ahead of time). I'd also do Alcatraz in San Fran - definitely need to buy tix ahead of time (like at least a month out I think)
If you have to skip LA to do San Diego, I'd do that. In San Diego - the zoo, Coronado Island (Hotel Del Coronado)

we did San Fran down to San Diego... our friends live in San Diego and when they got married we went out a week or so before and turned it into a road trip  ITs been almost 10 years i think so i'm trying to remember.... i know we did Hearst Castle, we spent like 2 days in San Fran seeing Alcatraz, Ghiradelli, and just touring around the city. We saw Muir Woods, Santa Barbara, Huntington Beach/ pier, Monterey, drove by Pebble Beach golf course... then spent a couple days in San Diego for the wedding and went to Torrey Pines, the aquarium, the zoo... it was really one of the coolest trips i can remember- and not just because it was before we had kids dragging us down HAHAHAHAHA

We did this and want to go back again. We started in San Fran and ended in LA. I would stop and spend a night in Carmel. We stopped in Monterrey and Big Sir along our drive. We spent a night on the way to LA in a beach town and then headed to LA. It was such a beautiful drive.
