Re: Triple birth weight by a year?
DD was born 7 lbs 8 oz and weighed 23 lbs 15 oz at 12 months. So yes she did!!! She's solid and an excellent eater.
At her last dr appt around 17 months she was almost 27 lbs 7 oz She goes tomorrow for her 18 month. I'm scared to see what this kid weighs!!!

DS was 7Lbs 13 oz at 9.5 months he was 22 Lbs 6 oz
So I think that's accurate for us.
He packed on pounds during the 1st six month (very common for BF babies) and now he is leaning a bit.
my boys WERE NOT breastfeed an they gained most of there weight in the first months.... it is in ALL babies not jut BF babies!!!! all babies tend to gain more in the firt few months........
Oh I know that all babies gain most of their weight during the fist 6 months but it's especially true for BF babies thought. They on average gain more weight than formula babies during the 1st six month.
they DONT TEND to gain faster.....it has alot of variables....

Re: Triple birth weight by a year?
DS was 8 lbs at birth and 25 lbs at 9 months so it will be true and then some in our case. I bet he's like 28 now. Hopefully once he moves around more he'll thin out a little.

Re: Triple birth weight by a year?
If that were the case, I'd be screwed. My boy would be 34 1/2 pounds at a year!

I think when they say tripling their birth weight they are talking about babies who are more average to small at birth - like say 6-7 lbs. I would hope or I would have had an almost 30 lb 1 year old.
DD was 9 lbs 4 ozs birth - in the upper 90% and 20 inches.
Now last week at her 11 month visit she was 19 lbs 10 ozs and 28 3/8 inches - the ped said she is 50% for weight and height.
My ped is not concerned she is thriving and is growing - even thought she has slowed down.
I agree. I had a tiny baby and we are not even at 8 months yet but he is very close to triple his birth weight (and mighty cute ). He is moving up on the percentile scale because he had to. He was not even on the scale at the beginning and they say that by the age of 3, preemies are usually caught up. My pediatrician says that each baby sort of has his/her own growth scale and has to show progress in their own way. Also, I think that if a baby is fed on demand, then the BFing vs. formula feeding is not a huge issue when it comes to growth.
