Wow, I don't think it's such a big deal to want to be back to your prepregnancy body 3 months postpartum Chat Icon Would I have an entire magazine article devoted to it? No. But I know that I will be very disappointed in myself if at that point I can't fit back into my normal clothing.

If the article said she was 150 lbs and was trying to get back to 140, would you guys lay off her then? Chat Icon Small people have as many body issues as larger ones.

At her current weight her BMI is 21.2 - Healthy but on the thin side

At her crazy "goal" weight her BMI would be 19.4 - which is still a healthy weight but very close to being underweight.Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon I agree. I think the point of the article is that even if you're tiny, average or plus size, that losing the baby weight can still be just as hard no matter what size you are.

I completely understand your point and know that ANYONE can have body issues - big, small or in the middle.

However, when you KNOW that you are on the skinny side of things, saying how unattractive you are at 116 pounds feels a bit like rubbing it in to anyone over 116, which is most of the women in the US.

Re: Trista: I Want To Fit Into My Skinny Jeans

I don't really like this chick- But hey, she's not talking about anyone but herself and how SHE feels about herself .........I think ALL women suffer with some sort of body image issue regardlss of whether your thin, tall, a model - whatever ........

Part of me wants to slap her across the face for being a size 6 and complaining about it .........but she's happy with herelf at a sixe 4 .......

Would it be OK if she was a size 12 and saying she wanted to get back into her size 8 ??

it says shes a size four now, and she wants to lose more. Yes, I see a problem with complaining about being a 4.

That's not very close to being underweight - below 18.5 is underweight and even that has to be taken with a grain of salt depending on the body type.

I just don't get where people get off judging her for wanting to be what she was - whether that's 106, 116 or 166. Who are we to say that she should be happy at a 4?? Someone who's a 16 might scoff at the woman complaining that she's an 8 and so on and so forth.

I get the point of people possibly taking offense to her feeling unattractive at 116 but honestly, that's the problem of the offended, not her. She's not saying "anyone at 116 is fat and disgusting," she's saying she does not feel attractive at that weight. People project their issues on others and others issues on themselves - and that's nobody's problem but the person doing it IMO.

Point taken Chat Icon It's just something that bugs the CRAP out of me, the smaller people apparently lose the luxury of being unhappy with our bodies just because someone else thinks we should be perfectly content because they would be perfectly content Chat Icon

Re: Trista: I Want To Fit Into My Skinny Jeans

I hear ya too.
But the reason I have a problem with it is because society has made us this way... body conscious. You're not hot if you're not a size 4 or less. You're "fat" if you are a size 8. So it does annoy me when people make comments like that because then young girls, and even us older girls will think that we are not thin enough and not pretty enough because we are "fat".

And I know it's subjective because my inlaws scoff at me when I say I am too heavy. For me, I am heavy at a size 8.

I'm also super sensitive because my aunts both had anorexia and one aunt was 70 something pounds when she died. So when people who are very thin say they need to lose weight, it really bothers me.

The article says she wants to 'surpass her prepregnancy physique', not just get back to her prepregnancy body.

I understand post partum body issues better than anyone, but I do not feel bad for this woman.

I totally agree with you - we've stood side by side on this issue many times on this board Chat Icon

That said, I just think she's a complete dolt. I think she came across sounding like a fool...and telling people that her husband wags his finger at her when she eats something "bad" is really off putting.

I don't have a problem with people wanting to look and feel their best - and they shouldn't have to conform to other people's ideals. I hope this thread doesn't turn into another discussion about people's opinions of the thin and their BMI. My BMI is much lower than the "standard" and not one Dr of mine has ever taken issue with it - I am genetically thin and extremely healthy. I think focusing on across the boards "standards" can be damaging.

*now I'm stepping off the soapbox now
