Trying to find a good home for a dog (kind of long) - now with a photo - a better update
Obviously I'm not asking you guys to home it but I wanted your input.
My Dad moved down to Texas with a dog. The dog is too much for him to handle (never was his idea to start with). My brother was heart broken after his dog of 15yrs was finally put down. So my step mother decided to get him a dog, which he adores. The problem is he didn't realize how BIG the dog would get. He sort of thought a puppy would be a puppy forever (he has issues which is a different story). My father was NOT amused. So fast foward 4m. The dog is now in my house as they just moved. Our issue is my dad had some issues and finding a place to live with the dog is hard. He's 40lbs now. My brother never leaves the dog's side so the dog isn't good with staying outside by himself. If he hears us he goes crazy at the door (to me this is normal, just learning) my father can't handle it nor my brother so the bring him in. Since he can't be by himself, ever... my dad can't go out to eat or just about anywhere without someone staying in the car with the dog (we do NOT leave our dogs unattended in cars even WITH the windows down - this is Texas). But my father can't be out in the car, his health pushes him to be in A/C but my brother can't care for the dog. UGH (don't quote this part of it) ----
THIS is quotable below
____
My brother has come to terms that it would be best for the dog to be in a loving home with lots of backyard or a total inside dog who can rule the roost. He knows it will be hard on him but better for the dog and he loves the dog enough to give him up.
He's a good dog. Only goes potty outside cute as button trainable. Shots done fixed flea and tick treated.
I wrote up a nice little thing about him and put a picture of him on FB. Question is what else can I do to place him?
I don't really want to take him to the pound.
TIA
Sad update: 6/28
They just can't anymore. I had him on craiglist and the whole nine yards, lots of calls etc.
They are taking him to the shelter that already told him he'll have 3days to be adopted out.
I feel so shattered. What could I have done? Do I hate my dad for doing this. Do I judge my brother for allowing this. Its so heartless. Its unfair to the dog and seems to have no impact on my dad but my brother seems to think its 'best' for the dog. How?
I'm fumbling horribly with this.
I can't say this is right or wrong for them but.. i can say its wrong in my eyes and I am stuck with this odd guilt and helplessness.
Ugh .. sorry vent.
I'm just numb
update #2: 7/5 Happy 4th of July everyone..
Thursday update 8am call from one of my 'tugs' if you will We have 3 interested parties in the pup! Sent photos over this morning. Waiting on responses. I am trying HARD not to just assume its all good.. too many letdowns so far but lets ALL hope he finds a home.
*fingers crossed*

Petfinder will do courtesy postings to help rehome the dog. You can also call shelters in the area and ask about getting on their websites.

Google rescue groups in your area.
I know I say this all the time but please don't surrender him to a shelter. Many no-kill shelters WILL kill.

Yes Ma'am!!!
hence im here and looking for help.. THE LAST place I want to take him is the 'pound'.
He really *IS* such a sweet loving dog.. I want him to have a good home, so I am putting in the effort. My dad wanted to drop him off at the ASPCA but I said "let me try first" because I dont think that will work.
Do vets help too?

Where are you/ the dog located? Also how much time does he have...
A lot of local ocal rescues rely on fosterers. And if he is pure bred or mostly pure bred a breed specific rescues might help. I'm sorry you are dealing with this but if you can give rescues some time to line something up that can make it easier on them. Keep in mind the majority of the people in rescue do it just because they are kind hearted and it costs a lot of money to rescue dogs.

Yes, some vets will help by letting you put up a flyer in their office. Be careful with craigslist though. Make sure to charge a nominal rehoming fee as it typically weeds out the wackados.

Yeah-I would not go ASPCA route...
Vets could *possibly* help. It wouldn't hurt to call around and ask-that's for sure
Be extremely careful with Craigslist. Many people get animals off of there because they want to perform cruel experiments on them, abuse them, or making them into fighting dogs. It make me so sick and sad.

Trying to find a good home for a dog (kind of long)
There ARE good shelters and rescue groups out there you just have to do your homework! A shelter that is truly no kill WILL euthanize animals if they are seriously ill or pose a threat to humans--They will not euthanize for space or b/c a dog has been there too long. I would find a good shelter/rescue group and ask them to post a listing on their website. In the mean time you can increase the dog's chances of getting adopted by working on basic obedience skills with him. Teaching him to respond to his name, sit, down, etc will go a long way with potential adopters. You can also work on his separation anxiety. I have a long but effective training protocol to help with separation anxiety-FM me if you would like it.

Re: Trying to find a good home for a dog (kind of long)
really the photo does him no justice.. He does the one ear flop thing. The white stays down and the brown goes up.. SO cute!
He was timid of the camera and I had to whistle to get his ears up from the worried position. He kept walking over to me with his head down like "is that thing gonna hurt me?"
he really *IS* a good dog.

Just to note...I know for a fact that some no-kill shelters will ship dogs to kill shelters if they need space. Yes, in many cases it is for the reasons you posted, but that's not true in all.

I have never heard of this--also if the shelter is sending dogs out to be killed they are NOT a no kill shelter. You have to do your homework.

Trying to find a good home for a dog (kind of long) - now with a photo
so today the dog should be gone... Father and brother found a foster shelter near one of our military bases. They took a lot of interested in him. Loved him and his personality. Nearly dropped him off right there and then but my brother asked for another night with the dog. I predict tears not only at drop off but all night tonight and tomorrow and the day after.
He wants a cat now. Which I should say they HAVE a cat but he wants one of 'his own'. Im so tempted to get him a turtle or a fish instead.
We'll see how tonight goes.

Yes, but some advertise to be "no kill." Like I said, I know for a fact that what I'm saying is true. It's something important that people need to look into.
Like you said, people have to do their homework. Some shelters falsely advertise just like anyone.

No go on the shelter
They put them down within 3 days if not adopted so we refused to drop the dog off. We gave them photos and they said they'd try to help but they didn't want to put him down either.

I agree, no kill shelters do send out difficult to place dogs or long timers to other shelters including kill shelters. And they do put down certain dogs if they have medical or temperament issues. I have heard that North Shore is one of the shelters that dumps dogs, not sure if that is true.

I've heard the very same about North Shore.
