TTC & New Job & Maternity Leave
ok so it looks like i will be starting a new job around march 1st.
can someone help me with what i need to know about maternity leave? do i have to be with the company for a year before i qualify for paid maternity? if i get pregnant now and have a baby in 9 months or so - do they legally have to give me leave but they dont have to pay me??
can anyone fill me in with the basics that i should know??
TIA!

Yes you have to be working there for a year to get maternity leave, otherwise you would only receive NYS disability which is like $170

If your comany has more then 50 employees your entitiled to FMLA. You can take up to 12 weeks off.
Here is a link to help you understand more about FMLA.

Re: TTC & New Job & Maternity Leave
yes just know FMLA is really job security... for me it's no pay.. i think that's all around.
maternity leave information is dependent upon the company itself. Length of time off and pay details are different for each company. Some people even have their length of maternity leave based on how the birth was (via c-section or vaginal) etc. So that you have to check with your HR dept or maybe an employee handbook? IDK how big your company is or how those details work, but the information has to be somewhere.
FMLA is gov't mandated though - with whatever stringency attached.
then there's disability... again that depends on your job... i think there may be some govt rules for this too though (not too sure about that one).
