TTC vent
Dh and i are going on our 4th month of trying, the first month however no temping or opk so i don't know if you can really consider that trying. i know I need to be patient and it just takes some people longer, but it's so hard. if you know every month when you ovulate and try during that time would you go to the doctor after 6 months of trying and no results or would you hold out for longer? I know there are people on here who have been trying for a while and probably think 4 months is not very long, which in reality it isn't, but it's so hard to be patient. sorry i'm just venting.

Re: TTC vent
Feel free to vent. But to actually answer your question . . . if you are under age 35 unless you've been trying for a year (with trying defined as unprotected intercourse) your insurance isn't going to cover testing etc b/c you're not PG after 6 months.

Re: TTC vent
I am totally in the same boat, i can't imagine having to try for a year before seeing a doctor. I'm going on my 6th month, but also didn't use OPK's or anything for the first few. Right now I am feeling very frustrated becaus eI feel like we're doing things right and it just hasn't happened. I may call a dr. just to see if they have any tips, etc, let them know my situation, but I don't think I'll go in yet. Anyway, just know you're not alone

thank you, i figured i wasn't alone, but it's nice to actually talk to others out there. I also forgot about insurance not covering testing if it's under a year. I just don't want to start getting obsessed about it and that's what i feel like is happening.

Re: TTC vent
It is hard to wait. We've been ttc for over 2 years, and yes, 4 months is nothing, but I remember being there and thinking it was so long. Each month is its own little battle with highs and lows. We used OPK's right from the start and I charted for over a year before even starting to ttc. It does just take some people longer. This is the place to vent. It's true that some insurance companies won't pay for treatment if you haven't been ttc for a year. Good luck.

I didn't mean to suggest that you weren't alone. I'm totally frustrated and obsessed and b/c DH & I are over 35 and beyond our "time limit" we have an appointment with a specialist tomorrow. I just hope I can keep it together during the consultation!

Re: TTC vent
I have a question: How does the insurance know when you started TTC? I figure for me I stopped Birth control so they can track it that way but what if I didn't use BC?
Anyway....I've been trying for 11 months...next month marks the 1 year. I know that 4 months doesn't sound long but I remember when I hit 6 months....its felt like years of trying and I know it has to do with every month waiting for the 2 weeks for AF to show or not to show and those 2 weeks DRAG!

I didn't think you were suggesting that. good luck with your appointment. I kind of felt bad posting this because i did know that there were many ladies on here that have bee ttc for a long time and i didn't want to offend anyone.

It's defintely frusturating. We only started trying for 1 month, and I feel like that month was a loooong time. I prob wouldnt count your first month as 100% trying - bc if you didnt use OPKs or temping, etc. you could have missed your O date. I know it stinks, but they say it really could take 6 or more months!

Re: TTC vent
I know it's so frustrating. When I told my dr. I was going to TTC she said not to get impatient that it is very common for it to take 6 months to a year. I just worry because it took my sister over 3 to get pregnant.

Re: TTC vent
Well, I am under 35 and my doctor told me to see him if nothing happened in 6 months. this is also because we have been using the P&P method for years without any accidents. But i think that if you feel there might be something wrong - call the doctor and tell him its been a year of frequent, unprotected sex.

I have a question: How does the insurance know when you started TTC? I figure for me I stopped Birth control so they can track it that way but what if I didn't use BC?
Even that isn't an accurate indicator. I used to refill my BCP 3 months at a time. The last time I refilled I didn't actually use all 3 months b/c we decided to start TTC.
My insurance coverage actually says "For the purposes of this rider, infertility has the meaning set forth in the regulations of the New York State Insurance Department. In general, infertility means the inability of a coule to acheive pregnancy after 12 months of unprotected intercourse, as further defined in regulations." Isn't it great that the state gets to tell you how long to try before they tell the insurance companies to cover you???
It took me forever to find the NYS rules - which just tell you to look it up someplace else, to get the same thing - one year of unprotected sex. It doesn't even say anything about being over 35!!!!
So, if you go to the MD before the 1 year you kind of have to lie about how long you've been trying, which means your MD does NOT have accurate information to treat you with.
For me, I don't really want to undergo tests and invasive procedures (not to mention using vacation/sick days from work to do it) if it isn't necessary.

Re: TTC vent
I just wanted to chime in with my 2 cents. I my insurance company actually paid for my RLP while I was still on BCP. When I came back + for thrombophilia they pulled me off the pill ASAP. It was also the RLP that discovered I had PCOS (it was never suspected till then). Now over 18 months later I am finally able to "officially" ttc. So I think it may be how the doctor presents it to the insurance company for certain tests. I had thousands of dollars in testing covered and I was not even ttc yet in fact I still had a pack of pills left. Good luck ladies
