Re: Turning Car Seat Around
Baby has to be at least 1 year old AND at least 20 pounds. So, if baby is over 20 pounds but not yet a year, you still can't turn the seat around...same if baby is over 1 year but still under 20 pounds.
The longer they can stay backwards the better, it's much safer for their neck muscles.

Re: Turning Car Seat Around
My DS HATED being in the car seat. He screamed and went crazy. So as much as I hate to admit this, we turned him around at 10 months.
Bad, I know. But I will tell you that he's been so good ever since.

And if Jack's comfy backwards that long, my DD should certainly stay comfy backwards at least that long

Same here...except we turned it around just 2 weeks shy of her 1st birthday. DD is now 18 months and still not even 20lbs...but loves facing forward and enjoys the car now.

Re: Turning Car Seat Around
DD was over the limits, but since she didn't have a problem facing backwards - we kept her that way until she was 15 months

Re: Turning Car Seat Around
DD was 2 or about when we turned her around. Rear facing is safer so we kept her that way as long as possible. She never really minded.

Re: Turning Car Seat Around
I think right before he turned 1. His feet were flat against the back seat and it was time.

Re: Turning Car Seat Around
DS was just over a year, then I did more research, and we kept DD rear-facing until 15 months. If we have a 3rd, I'm going to do it for at least 18 months, preferably longer.
It is EXTREMELY dangerous to turn them around before 1 year (besides illegal). Their necks cannot handle a collision. Even at 1 year, they are at extreme risk of serious injury in a collision. Even adults are safer rear-facing (makes it a bit tricky to drive, though... )
It is NOT dangerous or uncomfortable to have their legs against the back of the seat, or scrunched a bit. There have been NO report injuries from taller DC rear-facing with their legs bent.
As long as their car seat allows it (weight-wise), I would strongly suggest keeping them rear-facing as long as possible. It is the absolute best thing you can do for them in the car.

Re: Turning Car Seat Around
A couple of weeks after DD turned 1 we turned her around. We were just waiting for her to hit 20 lbs. She used to hate the car so turning her around has worked wonders for us. She loves it now.

I completely agree. I feel like I have become carseat crazed since I had DS.
