Twin Births...
I had my girls vaginally without meds. (the without meds part was NOT my idea)
I just spoke to a friend of mine who is expecting twins. Her doctor has told her that he delivers all twins via c-section.
How were your twins delivered?
If via c-section why was that decision made?
TIA

Re: Twin Births...
I had a c/s because both were breech. Early on my dr was all for letting me deliver vaginally, especially because I did with DS.
I have heard others who say that, and I don't get it.

Re: Twin Births...
My OB told me that he likes to deliver twins by csection. I am a little disappointed, but understand if that is safer than I will do it!

Re: Twin Births...
As we progressed with the pregnancy, my dr had little faith that these babies would turn (they were breech and backwards) She warned me that even if one of them turned, there was no guarantee that the other would. In that case, a vaginal birth for one and a c/s for the other was not what she likes to do!
In addition, because I was IVF, she said, I worked so hard to get to this point, that why risk anything. She also grossed me out when she talked about trying to turn the one or both of the babies from the outside, so I scheduled a CS! But, my c/s was at 38 weeks 5 days! My babies were born at 6.5 and 7.6 lbs!

Same.
Had my OB insisted on doing a c/s from day one, for no apparent reason other than they were twins, I would have switched docs. That was the first question I posed to him at my first appt at 7 weeks.
I've heard "off the record" that many docs who like to schedule c/s from day one do so because it's "easier" for them and they feel there is less risk (ie. something going wrong at birth and they are sued) to them.

Re: Twin Births...
My Dr's were ready to deliver my babies vaginally but I had to have an emergency c at 35 wks due to preeclampsia.

Re: Twin Births...
Mine were delivered by csection. My dr only delivered twins vaginally if they were both head down. Baby A was head down for me but not Baby B and since Baby B was bigger she didn't want to risk the baby not flipping to head down.

Re: Twin Births...
Since I had a c-section with my first DS, the tentative plan is to schedule a c-section for the twins 1-2 weeks before due date. IF I go into labor before that and they are both head down, I can try for VBAC. I see midwives (but will see high risk ob-gyn as well).

Re: Twin Births...
C-section because they didn't want to risk a vbac.
If I were her I would go to a different OB. If she wants to deliver vaginally that is her choice not his. (especially if there is no reason for it)

Re: Twin Births...
My drs. have been up in the air with me but after I said I really didn't want to go naturally since we had to have IVF to get pg, and then I had to have a late term emergency cerclage and am on bed rest I just don't want to risk anything. I am currently scheduled for 38 wks 1 day and if they come any sooner I will still have a section.

Re: Twin Births...
I hope to go vaginal (definitely w/ meds). My dr said twin deliveries are usually 50% CS and 50% vaginal at her practice.

Re: Twin Births...
My doc hasnt talked to me about it yet, but has already mentioned that since I had a great pregnancy so far, Vaginally was an option and something I can consider. I also went vaginally with DD, and that was ALL NATURAL. No meds. Not something I opted for.
I wont be, again.
I rather a c-section since I am afraid that if I do go vaginally and there is complications, a C-Section is needed and then I went through both.
Most docs are for C-sections, since they are planned.
ETA: I plan on getting my tubes tied whille under.

Re: Twin Births...
This is my first pregnancy and my OB said that about 70% of his twin births are vaginal, not c/s. I want to give vaginal a try, I am only 19 weeks, things might change.

Re: Twin Births...
my ob only delivers twins via c-section. Didn't matter to me because my first was a c-section too. If my second was a singleton, I would have tried a VBAC but not with twins.

I believe we go to the same doctor. I didn't mind that he only does c-sections with twins. I liked his reasoning. My sister had twins and she was ahving them vaginally but then the second baby went into distress and she had to have a c/s anyway.

Re: Twin Births...
I was STRONGLY encouraged to have a section at my first visit. My OB said he has seen too many times the first come vaginally and then the second need a section. Since I wanted to try vaginally I was told if conditions were optimal (went into labor on my own, both head down, larger baby first) he would let me try. But I think he was just humoring me.
I ended up needing an emergency C and never went into labor. Twin A was breech so I wouldn't have been able to do it anyway.

Re: Twin Births...
i had a c/s with my 1st and will have a c/s again. i have heard that fraternal twins can be born vaginally, but since mine are identical (and sharing a sac) that is out of the question.

c/s because I had previously had a c/s, but also because both babies were breech.

C-section because twin A was breech. I was told I could try vaginally if both were head down.

Re: Twin Births...
One of the doctors in the practice was pushing for the c-section. But the other one wanted to give vaginal birth a try. I opted for the vaginal birth because I had a pretty easy birth with my first and I was terrified of the c-section. I was induced at 38 weeks, Baby A was born vaginally, but B was an emergency c-section. Dr #1 basically said "told you so" the next day. I'm not going back to him.

Re: Twin Births...
Each doctor in the practice had a different idea, My fear was delivering one vaginally and then not being about to get the other out and having a c-section so having two recoveries. The told me it was really up to me.
The high risk doctor told me that the way I am built they should be able to "slide out easily" whatever the hell that meant!
I ended up with an emergency c-section because they were early.
