Ugh - question about naps and CIO

So Tyler always wakes up happy from naps. If he doesn't wake up happy that means he woke up too soon.

For his afternoon nap he almost always wakes up halfway through, crying. Somedays he will cry for two minutes, other days (like today) he will cry for 20 minutes. I hate this. I don't mind getting him out but he's super cranky and clingy for the rest of the day then.

He is back asleep now, but am I doing the right thing by making him cry? Usually when this happens and he wakes up again (fully rested) he is all smiles.

i've been there! and i think it's ok to let him cry if you know that it's too early for him to wake up. my DD would do this from time to time and 9 times out of 10 if i let her be (as long as she wasn't hysterical) she went back to sleep for a good while and woke up happy. i have gone up too early and regretted it as it is usually a very cranky baby waiting for me. i usually had like a 20-25 minute time limit before going in for naps.

I let DS cry for up to 1/2 hour when he naps. Otherwise, I too have a monster all day. I see nothing wrong with it. The days I do go in earlier he isn;t even REALLY crying. Dry face, just loud noise. So, I think he knows what will get me in there.

I have to do the same thing with my DD....she wakes up from her naps to early and is so cranky. If she goes back and sleeps a little longer she always wakes up happier.
