ugh, anxiety, child care related
DS is in a fulltime daycare and we have already made the decision to switch him to a different daycare but the switch cannot happen until middle August .
I have the option to have a very close friend (i actually babysat her kids when I was a teen) watch him full time from the end of June 1-on-1 until his start date in August at his new daycare.
In my head, I know its the best decision. We really want to remove him from this daycare that he is in now. It isn't dangerous for him to be there but he has been constantly sick, he doesnt sleep there, he gets shuffled around a ton etc.
My heart is telling me that maybe its too much change? Maybe asking him to adjust to this new 1-on-1 situation for 2 months and then to move him to a new in home daycare 2 months later is too much for a 12 month old?
IDK what to do. DH wants to do this but I am so torn
I dont know why I'm even posting this, I guess im looking for BTDT experience or insight... TIA!

Kids adjust so quickly. I think you should move him now and in August. He'll forget by mid-september.

Re: ugh, anxiety, child care related
I'm sorry his current daycare is making it so difficult for him! But he will be in much better hands once you switch him.
Here's the thing - babies are remarkably resilient and adaptable!!! While routine can be king for some kids, it sounds like he doesn't really have a great routine (or any) right now anyway!
So the question is - are you ok with him continuing like this for another 3 months? Or would you rather take him out and get him better situated?
Maybe you can call the new daycare and ask them what their nap time is for toddlers his age and have the 1 on 1 person who would be watching him put him on the same schedule. That way at least in one way he would not have to re-adjust come August.

He's at the same daycare that Linda's John is at right? And you mentioned he'd soon be moving to John's room, yes? Because that whole "bitten 8 times" thing would NOT fly with me and I'd pull Jack now since you're definitely doing it anyway!

karin! please dont move him around too much.
From my experience.......we talked about this before....
DS is in a at home daycare, which is only on a school schedule, so whenever schools are closed daycare is closed. My MIL works for a school--PERFECT, kind of. During week long vacations DS is with my MIL. Its 1 on 1 care, he doesnt have to share attention with anyone, its just him and grandma. When he goes back to daycare, the daycare lady gets H E L L from him. As soon as she leaves the room, or she goes to the potty with someone he goes CRAZY! This happens every time daycare closes. This last time has been HORRIBLE. Hes been back in daycare for almost 3 weeks and STILL has not adjusted. he still freaks out ALL the time. The older he gets the more smart he gets and this last time has been HORRIBLE to get him back on track and it was only a week!! I cant even imagine what the summer is going to do to him, I am scared for September.

it is a possibility that he *could* move up to that room but there are still 3 kids in his room that have to move up before him. I doubt he would move in the next three months but its always a possibility. i think the answer is becoming more clear

this is what makes me nervous but it wouldnt be a continual back and forth. his new daycare that starts in August is closer to a 1-on-1 than a "center" ... only 6 kids total for 2 teachers in the entire place. i just dont know

See, I disagree with Joanna based on my own experiences with DS (and you'll find that everyone's personal experiences can vary and so will their opinions).
My DS is home with me some days, some days with DH, and some with my MIL. This is every week. He really adapts to the differences. Put it this way, even on the days that he's home with me, he adapts to DH's personal schedule on the days he's home with DH! It's pretty funny actually.
For example, with me he's up at a certain time, we change his diaper, milk, play, breakfast, then nap.
DH however LOOOOOVES to sleep, lol, and when DS is home with him, he wakes up, diaper change, nap for 1-2 hours! Then gets up for bottle and breakfast. SO weird. You'd think he'd want to follow the same schedule every day!
Anywho, just one example. You really have to do what's best for him and only you know what that is. I figure you're pulling him out for a reason, why keep him there for 3 more months?

Re: ugh, anxiety, child care related
I just wanted to add from day 1 with all 3 of my kids, incl currently, they have gone to daycare 3 days a week and 2 days home with grandma and have absolutely never had a problem with the 2 different care situations. It's amazing how well kids adjust.
I had a daycare situation that required moving centers a couple of times and there weren't any problems. You need to do what's best and they will adjust!
Like the PP said, it's different for everyone. Good luck!
