Ultrascreen Blood Results Question
Ok ladies...here's a doosey for you... I had my 12 week sono and blood last week. The sono looked perfect according to the sono tech. My blood came back and everything looks fine.....except... the test for Down's and Trisomy came back with such low numbers that they are considered "unreadable". My doctor said he has never seen this on a lab report before. They even called the lab to see if they could elaborate, and basically they told them to re-draw my blood, they would test it again and see what the levels are like then. No one had any kind of answers for me why the numbers were so low. I am freaking out right now.... Has anyone had anything like this happen?????

Thanks Jess... I already went in to the office and had the blood draw. The whole thing just makes NO sense. They said that the baby definitely does not have Downs or Trisomy because then my numbers would be high....but why on earth would the numbers be so low that they are unreadable????

GOOD - so at least you are one step closer to "firm" results...and your doc already told you that you SHOULD be okay...
Could there have been some kind of 'contamination' of your blood at the lab and they didn't want to come out and say that? I don't know how they do these tests, but maybe the blood didn't 'spin' right (i think they put them in a machine that spins it, no??)...

Re: Ultrascreen Blood Results Question
When you say low do you mean that your chances were very high for having a problem or your chances were very low?
IE: 1:3 or 1:10,000?

Re: Ultrascreen Blood Results Question
It was an error in processing....
Happens all the time with those blot tests....
I wouldnt spend any more time worrying about it...

They told me that the results were so low, meaning zero chance that there could be Downs or Trisomy.... but they said that the results were abnormally low.

Then I agree with the others, it must have gotten tainted somehow. I'm sure that when you get your corrected results back that things will be straightened out for you.

Re: Ultrascreen Blood Results Question
They might have not taken enough blood. Or maybe the specimen was hemolyzed so they couldnt get acccurate readings.
I am sure it is a lab error!

Re: Ultrascreen Blood Results Question
I agree with everyone that it was probably just a lab error... as hard as it is try not to worry
