Underground Oil Tank Excavation
Has Anyone had to have this done? If so, who did you use and were they costly?

Re: Underground Oil Tank Excavation
When we purchase our home there was an old oil tank in the ground that wasn't being used anymore, the new tank is above the ground. We were given a certificate of abandonment from the previous owners...I believe it was filled with some type of foam...

Re: Underground Oil Tank Excavation
You don't have to excavate - you can have it legally abandoned they just fill it with sand or foam.
We've looked into this alot
We just bought a house that has this. But the tank is under the driveway (the fill cap is in the concrete- talk about a nightmare)
We were going to have it done but since there is a lot of oil in the tank still we would have no choice but to get the larger tank so we are waiting because we would like to get a smaller tank.
It will cost you anywhere from 1500-2500 bucks.

Re: Underground Oil Tank Excavation
I am torn what to do because ours is in our backyard in an almost central location where I really want to eventually put an inground pool in either next year or the year after. I spoke to one company who suggested legally abandoning it but i just dont think that i can have a pool then. The trouble with removing it.. aside from cost... is the potential for a leak that if found must be reported to the agencies and I could be fined tremendously.

We were told this too & ended up just getting it filled with foam.
You can take the chance since it's the location where you'd like your pool to be, but honestly - it could cost you sooo much money in fines it may not be worth it.

Re: Underground Oil Tank Excavation
We used our Oil Company (General). They filled the old one with foam and installed a new tank. this was 5 years ago and I think it cost us around 1500 for everything
