Unfortunately my son witnessed something on the way to school this morning because of the Obama win...
2 white cops were searching a black guy and the cop told him "don't think because Obama won I'm letting you go"
This is DISGUSTING!!! Was that really necessary?
I thought my DH was the ONLY person that was hearing this c r a p coming from fellow police officers he works with but apparently it seems to be city wide.
UN FREAKING REAL!

while i agree and i think it was a totally unnecessary thing to say, part of me thinks that the police officer may have said that out of fear - doesn't make it right, but i don't think it was said with any malice. (obviously i was not there but that is my take on it)

So sad, but there are racist people everywhere.....I'm sure those 2 cops were racist way before Obama won. It's disgusting, all we can do is try and teach our children to be respectful of all people, no matter their race/gender/background, etc.

My DH has had plenty of guys he's dealt with or arrested lately tell him that because Obama was gonna win, he had to "watch out" cause Obama was gonna "take care of us." Maybe that cop was tired of hearing that and said something back at these guys he shouldn't have...its been a crazy time these past few months!

I wish I could remember word for word what my DH's sargeant said. The jist of it was him predicting or insinuating Obama won't make it to his inauguration because he will be assasinated - since most white people aren't happy about him being elected.
DH said it was VERY HARD for him to stay quiet, but he did.
I tell you..I just can't believe it. It makes me SICK to my stomach!

That's heinous.
Unfortunately, nothing surprises me anymore. I was called a "racist white b!tch" the other day in public because a friend and I were quietly talking to each other about how much we like McCain. We weren't talking about ANYTHING having to do with Obama or race. Some people are just ignorant jerks. I just wish the ignorant jerks would keep their mouths shut.

It's crazy that they have to deal w/that, but what amazes me is the ignorance on both parts. Obama didn't say he was going to "free prisoners" so why would either side (people or cops) think that KWIM?

Well you can rest assured that you've raised a child who recognizes injustice and will call someone on it when he sees it.

oh yeah--ITA...its just been such racial tensions in many inner city areas around here. the cops deal with people saying some horrible things to them all day long (its just disgusting the insults spewed at my husband daily) - and they should be the mature & responsible party and NOT stoop to such a level like the cop in this instance did. I definitely think he should never have made such a statement.
Many cops are conservative Republicans and I'm sure that cop was probably bitter that his canidate didn't win and he was being a jerk. I guess I was just seeing a slight reason why he might have said it, even though it does NOT make it okay.

How could it not be malicious? I agree on the fear point, a lot of racism is based on fear.

Wow totally unnessesary but so not surprised. One of the reasons why after I got out of the military I refused to be a cop in NY--I would have been a darn good one but I have seen so many incidents where if I were a cop I would have had to hang my head in shame. (Theya re some good but people lump you in with the bad and the pay and lack of respect--I passed)

I know - I'm just SO angry over this. I feel like they stripped my son of his joy and hope. After having wanted to participate in the election and not being able to do so because he's not of age - it just makes it that much worse for him to have seen this.
I know it's out there..I just really wish it weren't
