Re: Unfortunately my son witnessed something on the way to school this morning because of the Obama win...
Racism is not going to stop (on either side) because an African American is president. I am really sorry your son had to witness that. However, the fact that he witnessed it and was upset by it speaks volumes to his good heart (and yours for having instilled it in him).
Though racism has not come to a final and screeching halt, the hearts and minds of those who are sick and tired of it spoke last night. I'm African American. And I'm very happy that history has been made. But that history could not have been made without EVERYONE'S unity, and I'm so proud of my country right now, I can hardly stand it!

That's heinous.
Unfortunately, nothing surprises me anymore. I was called a "racist white b!tch" the other day in public because a friend and I were quietly talking to each other about how much we like McCain. We weren't talking about ANYTHING having to do with Obama or race. Some people are just ignorant jerks. I just wish the ignorant jerks would keep their mouths shut.
Unbelieveable. What the hell? He's a senator, not the leader of the Klan! I don't get how it translates into a race thing

My DH has had plenty of guys he's dealt with or arrested lately tell him that because Obama was gonna win, he had to "watch out" cause Obama was gonna "take care of us." Maybe that cop was tired of hearing that and said something back at these guys he shouldn't have...its been a crazy time these past few months!
I was going to say the same thing. DH heard all the time that once Obama got elected he wouldn't be able to arrest them anymore.
Even more amusing, the night Obama won the election, he said people filled the streets dancing and some shooting off their guns into the air

What is this world coming to, I cant believe these cops would say this, But unfortunally there are alot of racist people in the world. I'm glad Obama is President he will do well for our country. Well any president will do better than what bush has been doing.

another worker in the school went around saying "yeaaaa i know all you white ppl look so down today, i know why...."

i think people are just really happy he won. i was sitting in my college classroom and of no where this girl walks in and was like "i got a new job and its to paint the white house black" i think it was kinda weird to say
I swear to you, there are some ignorant and just plain silly things being said on ALL SIDEs... this morning I witnessed 2 elderly AA women arguing with a pharmacist saying bc obama won, they no longer have to pay for their medication.
[stunned]
I just think they're confused with his proposed plan and what it really means...
I've also heard some ignorant things said against obama this wknd too which I would rather not repeat.

Many students in my school think that they can now do what they want and get into trouble and play the race card when they get into trouble. I witnessed a student say to a teacher, you cant suspend me now that we have a black president. very sad.

People have high hopes. I wonder when the reality will finally set in that Obama isn't going to be giving any handouts (or is he)? And I wonder when the same people who voted for Obama will sadly turn against him b/c he isn't giving the handouts as they were so disillusioned that he might.

I also remind myself I do NOT know the context to which the people were speaking... I heard a little snippet of it... perhaps stayandjohn did as well... It could be that they even said it tongue in cheek... So I wouldn't read too much into it

I'm not really sure how to take this comment or what you mean by it, so i will just say OK?
I didn't think my son witnessing something was considered crazy, but thanks for your input.

sounds like alot of Officer's are dealing with comments like this, so it wouldn't surprise me
ITA.
Before we jump to judge the Police officers, we really should remember you don't know what was said to them by this particular man, or what they have been dealing with in general to respond with that comment. They have a very hard job that I do not envy. If the stories are true, there are quite enough stories on here about comments made by people who seem to think Obama is their ticket to do wrong, or get something for free. So let's be fair to the police officers and remember, there are TWO sides to every story, and there could be way more that was said that the OP didn't "hear" or "see".

Re: Unfortunately my son witnessed something on the way to school this morning because of the Obama win...
i don't know....call me crazy here...but i find it hard to believe that cops would say this - in THIS situation. don't get me wrong - i'm not saying things like this DON'T happen...but, i find a few things odd..
the cops were searching someone - yet your son was close enough to hear this being said by the cops??
either your son was quite close to them while this 'search' was taking place (not likely IMO)
OR
the cops were saying it LOUD ENOUGH for passersby to hear (also not likely IMO)
again, i don't doubt things like this happen (from both sides - perps and cops) -- and i'm not saying your son is lying....but in this situation, i just find it hard to believe
