Unique ideas to bring on labor?
What has worked for you in the past? So far we've tried all the usual stuff, spicy foods, walking, BDing. Nothing yet. My due date is 4/29 and I'd love to go naturally . . . . TIA!

Re: Unique ideas to bring on labor?
You can try Evening Primrose Capsules and Rasberry Leaf Tea. The evening primrose you can either take orally or insert vaginally(works faster).

True, I forgot about Raspberry Leaf tea.
If they work, how soon do any of these things kick in? Anyone know?

Re: Unique ideas to bring on labor?
Exactly one year ago today, I had my membranes stripped at 9 am in the morning. I had DS less than 32 hours later.

At my last two OB appts I had internal exams and my dr. tried to strip my membranes but said everything was still too high. I have another growth sono on Monday (because she's huge, apparently) and then a dr. appt.

Gotcha. I was 2-3 cm dilated and 60% effaced in station 0 so that's probably why mine was successful.
Good Luck!

If this is the case there's probably not much you can do to help moves thing along yet.
According to my doctor the only things that really help are sex and gravity - like staying on your feet, walking, etc. But you have to be in early labor already for those things to work - meaning starting to efface and dilate.

Unique ideas to bring on labor?
Yep -- I'm a firm believer that baby comes when baby wants to come. I know the last few days are hard (trust me, I'm due 1 day ahead of you on 4/28), but keep in mind our due dates haven't even passed yet. Are you effaced or dilated at all?!?!

I know! My dr. told me I dropped three weeks ago and to be prepared to go early. So, I've had in my mind for the past 3 weeks that it could be any day! And now she says I'm not dilated or effaced at all!! BAH!
The thought of going past my due date is almost too much! And she is getting so big, it is also kind of horrifying to me! Another growth sono on Monday (my third). SIGH!!

I think it worked for my stepsister who started around 36 weeks and her dd was born at exactly 37 weeks.
I didn't try it since I have a history of preterm deliveries. If I'm still preggo at 36 weeks I will start then.

Try not to stress too much about your lack of effacement/dilation - it doesn't always mean much. I've been 2cm dilated and 70% effaced for the past 2 weeks and absolutely nothing is going on!

I will say NEVER take Castor Oil...I still shiver at the thought of it lol.
Sex doesn't work either unless you both orgasm. His fluids have a chemical that thins out your uterus and your orgasm can cause contractions. If neither of those happen every time it ain't worth the work lol.
Old wives tales are eggplant and pineapple...I guess a good meal wouldn't hurt lol

Pump your boobs! Nipple stimulation is supposed to trigger hormones that bring on labor.

Pineapple. My friend at work told me that it brings on labor, so I had a ton of pineapple on Mother's day two years ago. That night, I went into labor.

Eggplant and sex. Not sure if it was a coincidence or if it actually worked but I'll take it!
I had an appt wed pm and "I was sealed shut" as my ob put it. I had eggplant and Friday night and then some eggplant sat. My water broke Sunday morning

Re: Unique ideas to bring on labor?
I don't know why doctors say things like "oh you are definitely going to go early-you've dropped, or you are 4cm, no way you are going to make it to your due date". These statements just make a first time mommy anxious and disappointed. No one knows when the baby will come till the baby is actually here (or they medically induce or section you). My Dr. told me with my first I would never make it to my due date being 3-4 cm dilated at 36 weeks and a very physical job. Guess what? I made it to 41 weeks on the dot and went into labor on my own. Average first time moms go 41+3 days if not induced. I found it easier to calculate that as my real due date and mentally prepare for going to that date as opposed to my actual "due date". I know it doesn't help a lot when you are huge and uncomfortable (believe me I know) and everyone keeps asking when/why you haven't had that baby yet but I keep repeating it to myself now (it starts even earlier with the 2nd, like at 35 weeks everyone was telling me the baby was coming) Hope that baby comes soon for you and you don't feel pressured to be rushed into labor..

Couldn't agree more. I was another one 3-4cm dilated way early who didn't delivery early.

Re: Unique ideas to bring on labor?
I ordered 2 pairs of sandals from dsw. Maybe maxing out my credit card will spur labor. Lol
It is worse second time. Everyone saying second was is faster and earlier. Yet I was early with my daughter and now only 2 days from due date. In agony with pelvic pain and false labor last three days with intense pain for several hours but contractions that I know aren't "strong enough" having done this before and sporadic eventually stopping.
So frustrated. I am not a pleasant person to be around right now :)

I believe the baby comes when the baby is ready. agreed! Unfortunately all those old wives tales are just that, tales. I tried everything. And I mean every single thing except castor oil. The one day I just relaxed and didn't try any old wives tale was the day I went into labor! Lol. Go figure.
