unsolicited "friendly" advice about registry

I'm just curious if others have received unsolicited "recommendation" about their registry.

i gotten many comments on how I don't have a lot of stuff on my registry.

I didn't register for my furniture ( too expensive and needs to be ordered)

i have spent time thinking about what to register for (consumer reports, what can my family afford etc....)

Is it my crazy hormones or what ?

Thanks for the vent

Re: unsolicited "friendly" advice about registry

My mom is constantly sending me emails of things she thinks we should get, or things that she thinks are better than what we registered for. My favorite though, is when she keeps emailing me things from 20 different stores, with cheaper prices than where we registered. I keep telling her, WE'RE NOT BUYING THIS STUFF!!!

The "friendly" advice never stops. Depending on who is giving the advice, I might listen to some of it though. Particularly if it is a recent BTDT mom. I had a friend help me and I was thankful.

Sorry to crash!

Re: unsolicited "friendly" advice about registry

I think ours is great, especially knowing more now after our bridal registry (put too many extra junk on there) and after reading baby bargains...I think its a perfect amount of stuff w/a wide range of prices

Of course my MIL asked my DH on the phone, "Why don't you have clothes on there?"

because we don't want to get overloaded w/clothes, people will buy them anyways, we're not finding out the sex, and we need the more important stuff first, and then we can get clothes

basically yeah, people will say crap...esp my MIL Chat Icon

Re: unsolicited "friendly" advice about registry

I think people like to "help" even if their well meaning intentions come off as annoying. They want to be involved with the pg and this is how they are trying to do it. As for advice on registries I really appreciated hearing what other moms had to say because I would rather get what works and is a good product than something that will just take up space and will never be used. As for clothing, I agree, people will get what they want to get.

Re: unsolicited "friendly" advice about registry

Unsolicited advice really irritates me BECAUSE I am the type of person who ASKS a million questions of BTDT Moms -
But I also ask those Moms thate I have a lot in common with, the same lifestyle, same overall style etc ......

DH has a cousin who is a know it all - She has a child so SHE knows everything (and b/c she's the only one on DH's side w/ a baby, now 2 babies, HER word and her mother's word are law) - I have A LOT of babies in my family, a lot of cousins who have recently had kids, a lot of friends who have young babies/kids .......I have a lot of people to ask opinions of and get a wide range of opinions .........

But my MIL of course only has her neice, and this girl is just a PITA -
She inspected my entire registry and was like 'You don't need that, I never used that, that's not necessary, that's a waste of money, you should take 3/4 of this back and buy diapers, WHY do you need such an expensive storller? WHY did you bother to buy bedding? etc etc etc" - And if she weren't so condescending and arrogant about it I'd let it just go over my head, but it's the WAY she talks to me that makes me want to B*tch slap per !!
Seriously? STFU !!
It's my first baby, go ruin some else's fun !! -

Re: unsolicited "friendly" advice about registry

You just have to take the comments in stride. Sometimes advice from other moms is great. But you also have to remember that what worked for them may not work for you. Everyone's different and you need to get what makes you feel good and comfy. Who cares what everyone else says. Chat Icon

I got a comment that I didn't register for clothes. Truthfully, clothes are the least of my concerns. I need the car seats, strollers, pack n play, swing, etc.
