UPDATE 12/26: Somebody tell me about chicken pox / measles!
DD had a ear infection + cold virus last week.
Today she had her 2-year well visit. I noticed a couple spots on her body at the visit. The ped said it was probably a rash from getting over her cold.
The spots are worse now and she's scratching at them. They are bright red and raised.
Please tell me what it could be and what to do about it!

UPDATE 12/25:
They look more like flat red spots this morning. (scratch that... I think the new spots are flat, the older ones are raised)
She's has been scratching at them too. I'm going to re-apply the hydrocortisone cream because that seemed to help her last night. Does this warrant a trip to ER?
ETA: I think it's chicken pox too. How the heck does this happen? We don't know anyone who has had it.
Do I need to take her to the ER?
 
Update 12/26:
We determined yesterday that it is a rash/hives. There wasn't whiteheads like there is in chicken pox and she was only very slightly discomforted by some itching. No fever, no sickness and she had the chicken pox vaccine.
Today, the spots have faded tremendously and she hasn't been scratching. It must've been an allergic reaction to something - I still think it was the detergent my mom used.

can you take a picture of it? there are a LOT of rashes that sound like the one you just said. like heat rash.

I didn't take a pic of the rash. I have a photo of her in her pjs by our tree but it's not on her face.
I'm wondering if it's a reaction to detergent. The clothes she wore today were my niece's hand-me-downs sent to us by my mom. My mom had washed them before she sent them (they smelled like her laundry *sigh*). She's never had a reaction to her laundry before though.
Anyway, we put some cortisone cream on it and she seems to have stopped scratching it before she went to bed. I'll update tomorrow. I hope it's not chicken pox!

Has she had the immunization for Chicken Pox?
Chicken Pox usually has a little white head surrounded by red at first. It is hard to see in the pic if that is what it is or not.

She had the varicella vaccine in January 2008.
They do not look like little white heads. I'm wondering if it's hives now...
She hasn't eaten anything out of the norm. I thought it might be the detergent (see above post) but it's going up to her face. Unless she rubbed her face with her clothes yesterday.

Are her PJ's new? It could be from anything. Something she ate, touched, etc. Allergies can sometimes come out after she had something a second or third time too, so it could be from anything Hope you find out what it is.

You could give her some Benadryl and that should help with the hives. Jaidy is allergic to a bunch of stuff and it always makes her hives go away pretty quickly.

it looks like hives. a little benadryl and all should be good. if it does not go away after giving her a bath and a change of cloths then i would call the dr. but looks like just hives. hope she feels better
(tried to post this before the system went down for a few min)

Thanks everyone! We'll try the benadryl. I want to attribute it to the laundry detergent my mom used but I'll see if it goes away in a couple days with wearing clothes that I washed at home.

I jsut asked my DH who is not a doctor one, but plays on on TV.  Just kidding, he is an EMT though.
He said definately chicken pox and to get calamine lotion, and that it is NOT necessary to go tot he ER
