One of my best friends just had this. She went to LIJ for an special test (fetal echocardiogram??? I think??) and everything is fine. Try not to worry too much. My friend was told that so many people have this and it goes away on it's own most of the time. I hope it's nothing.

They found an echogenic focus on my daughter's heart at my level II as well. They drove me crazy & had me in tears for over a week. I went back for a repeat sono & they told me that basically since there were no other markers for DS & my AFP results were completely normal, the ecogenic focus basically meant nothing. My DD was born perfectly healthy.

When I was pregnant with DS he had the same thing. They did other tests and because my AFP was normal, they were pretty sure everyting was going to be fine with DS .... and it was!

One of the girls I used to work with had this happen with her son at her Level II - it was very emotional but she went for all the follow up testing and sure enough everything was fine. Her son is 100% happy and healthy.

Ladies, thank you all for the prayers and experiences. I just called Madonna's office and got a 2:45pm appointment with the genetic counselor today. I hope she will talk me off the ledge. I am doing my best to stay positive, but it is really hard when you are crazy to begin with.

How did all of your other tests come out? This is just a marker, usually baby would need several or all markers of Down's, which would be more on an indication.
Did your ultrascreen and afp come out ok?
I am praying the genetic counselor can ease your fears.

a good friend of mine had the same thing on her sono, and the baby is completely healthy. Her dr said that there are a lot of people this happens to and not to worry at all. GL

Hi,
I know all too well what you are going through. baby DD had a similar spot at our level II last May and it was noted and explained the possible scenarios. However they did say it can go away and by the time I hit my 28th week the tech said she no longer saw it and this was confirmed 3 more times before I delivered at 32.5 weeks. So the moral is it doesnt have to be as downs marker, it could just disappear on its own.

Remember it is a soft marker, not a definitive diagnosis. It might even go away on subsequent Sonos. A good friend of ours had the same thing and at this point everything looks great. Did you do the Ultrascreen?
