UPDATE 8/31: Ok, So I am a little worried, Anyone ever experience this?
Ok So, for the last week or so, completely out of nowhere I started feeling this weird sensation when I swallowed. Like I had swallowed a large vitamin and it got somewhat stuck in my throat. Only no matter how hard I tried or how much water I drank it did not go away. So here I am a week later and it's still there, annoying me to an unimaginable degree, everytime I swallow I feel it and even when I am not swallowing I feel it too. It feels like that knot you get in your throat right before you are about to cry.
I was trying to hold off going to the Dr. because I stared a new job a few months back and my insurance was supposed to kick in after 90days. As it turns out I am now 3 weeks past that date and apparently they accidentally "overlooked" getting my plan into effect and sending my papers to me. So I finally spoke up last week and they gave them to me, I filled them out and gave them back last Wednesday with a letter pleading for them to expedite this asap and to call me with my ID #'s so I could go the the Dr. Well, It's now Monday and I still have not heard a thing from the manager. I called and left her a voice mail this am and also emailed her this afternoon. Still nothing. So I called at 4:00 and they said, Oh- She just left like 5 mins ago...Nice, good to know my health and their screw up are not a priority to them.
Needless to say I can't take feeling this anymore, it's really frightening me so I made an appt with my GP for this Thursday at 5:45pm, which I now have to pay out of pocket for. I am really nervous as to what this could be. I'm a bit of a hypochondriac and I always think the worst, then I look it up online and all this stuff about thyroid, throat and esophageal cancer comes up which has me so terrified, especially since I used to be a smoker...Ugh, I hope it all turns out ok, I am only 26 for pete's sake. Please if any of you have any prayers left in you, could you add me to that list...Thanks I just needed to vent.
UPDATE: 8/31/06: So after finally getting everything straightened out with my ins, I went to see the ENT specialist today. AFter sticking that little camera/scope up my nose and down my throat they determined it is Laryngopharyngeal Reflux which is a type of acid reflux. YAY, I am so relieved. Basically I should stay on the "low acid" diet and he prescribed me Nexium 2x's a day for the next 6 mos. I have to go back in 2mos for a follow up and to make sure that the meds are working ok.
Needless to say I am very relieved and thankful. I truly appreciate all of your thoughts, hugs and prayers.

Sounds like it could be your thyroid. Try not to worry to much, but have your GP check it out.

Sounds like thyroid and Im sure its nothing. WE ALWAYS think the worst and its very rarely the worst right?
Also if they get your insurance started reto active, have the dr bill the insurance after and reimburse you after they were paid by the insurance. Thats doable for sure.
ITcould also be as simple as a swollen gland.
Try not to worry.

Re: Ok, So I am a little worried...Anyone ever experience this?
It may be that the vitamin got lodged in your throat or the acid eroded the esophagus a little. the dr. will probably send you to a GI dr. to get an endoscopy. I'm sure its fine and nothing they can't easily fix. Also, just as an aside, there is a muscle in your throat that tightens when you are stressed if it is tightened for a long period of time sometimes it starts to throb and causes the sensation you are talking about. So it may be nothing at all! Don't worry!

My SIL had this and swore she had throat cancer. It ended up being Gurd, which is an extreme form of acid reflex. She is off meds since she is pregnant but fine.
So it could be anything- don't panic yet

You insurance should cover it. Your cover date should still be the date it was supposed to start, just make sure to get a receipt for your visit and any meds you may get. Feel better and try not to get all worked up, I know easier said then done.. Keep us updated and feel better

You shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for your doctor's visit, since your effective date should have passed. Worst case scenario, have the doctor's office contact the insurance company and get your insurance ID number. Then the office can bill your insurance. I had this happen to me a few years back and my doctor's office simply called up and got the number.

This happened to my cousin's husband. I'm glad you're taking care of yourself. Your company's health insurance should pick up the tab for the doctor's visit. As long as you enrolled in the program as it was spelled out - this is on their dime. Tell the office manager to handle it.
Feel better soon!

Re: Ok, So I am a little worried...Anyone ever experience this?
They can check you out with a barium swallow (drink the white stuff and get an xray). Thats the first thing my friend did when see had this problem. She also saw an ENT and all was fine. He looked down her throat with a camera. After the feeling went away on its own.

Re: Ok, So I am a little worried...Anyone ever experience this?
Please don't worry yourself- this is VERY COMMON! Many times, acid reflux and GERD will be described as a feeling as if there is something caught in the throat. Even though the problem is lower in the gastrointestinal tract, the sensation occurs much higher (up in the throat).
Good for you for going to the doctor. Your GP will likely send you for a barium swallow.

Re: Ok, So I am a little worried...Anyone ever experience this?
have you eaten fish - it coud be a fish bone or it could be just stress
it could be a tiny ulcer
whatever it is, its NOT serious...i am sure the doc will tell you that
i know its a pain to have to pay out of pocket, but once the doctor tells you what it is and how to get rid of it, it will be worth it because you will be relieved

Re: Ok, So I am a little worried...Anyone ever experience this?
My mom and MIL both have a feeling of tighting or a lump like feeling in their throat and it is caused by their reflux. They both get that sensation when they have anxiety over something.

Also, can't you call the insurance co and get the ID number so you don't have to pay out of pocket?
But, good luck!

Re: Ok, So I am a little worried...Anyone ever experience this?
It could be your thyroid, it could be GERD/Acid Reflux, or it could be a yeast infection. Have you taken any antibiotics lately?
Good luck at the doctor's. I am sure it will all be OK.
