Yeah, I see where you're going with that. The reception starts at 5, or the does that include the ceremony?
Ceremony starts at 2. Cocktail is at 5.

It does look like a JCrew backdrop, but I still associate that sort of setting with a day ceremony & reception. How well do you know the couple? Are they laid back? If so, it might be fine, especially since SupaBonBon said it would have been fine for hers. I just tend to err on the side of overdressed, because I was a little offended that some ladies wore skirts (some with twinsets) & at least 1 man was tie-less at my Saturday night wedding. I' m just petty like that though!
The couple is pretty laid back & preppy.
I couldn't even tell you who wore what to my wedding. I didn't pay attention...well, more like didn't care. And when I'm at weddings, I tend to notice women who "reveal" too much as opposed to being underdressed. And I understand why some women would wear skirts, especially if they're in my position where you can't just buy a dress off the rack, especially evening wear.

Re: Shirt dress for wedding at the Old Field Club?
The dress may be a moot point.
I was going to have it made regardless of whether I wore it to the wedding or not, but the tailor and designer don't know if they can make it work with my figure. Why, I don't know. I'm meeting with them tomorrow for measurements and to go over some designs.
I need a "little black dress" anyway, but I have a lot of requirements (hence my reasoning for the shirt dress): *shoulders & neckline must be able to cover a standard bra (1inch straps) - my chest is too large for a strapless or halter style bra. And when I say standard bra, think your mom's over the shoulder boulder holder...not some VS bra. *I want my upper arms covered - I'm 4 mos post-partum and haven't lost the baby weight yet. Cap sleeves make my arms look bigger, so they're a no-no. *I need to camouflage my stomach. I still have a pooch courtesy of DS.
With my figure, it's not as simple as just buying a sundress. At the moment, I'm a Plus Size on top because of my chest, but on the bottom I'm a 10/12. Ohh, and to complicate matters I'm 6'1" so an off the rack dress' cut & seams won't fit me correctly.
Maybe I should be posting on the "This Sucks" board!!!

Re: Shirt dress for wedding at the Old Field Club?
if you are going to tailor, they HAVE to be able to figure out a flattering cut...I mean...helloooooo!
I think with this style, the devil will be in the details. fabric covered buttons, great fabric, nice details...and great accessories. nice make up. and maybe a bit shorter to show off those long assss legs of yours
would getting a separate top and botton made help?

I see your dilemma but not for a Saturday night wedding.
I've been to Old Field for weddings before and while it may not be the fanciest of places it's not casual.
the staff still wear tuxedos from what I remember.

For a Sunday wedding, yes, but not for a Saturday wedding. However, you wear what you want and knowing your taste and style, you will find a way to make it more of an upscale outfit.!

I agree and especially if it's being made and you can pick the fabric, is it possible to pick a fabric that has silver or gold threads weaved throughout?

Re: Shirt dress for wedding at the Old Field Club?
many years ago I worked there in high school. While the old field club is casual, i would think that that may be too casual. some weddings there were black tie. if you are comfortable wearing that, then you should wear it. i just might be a little too casual - however, it also depends on the couple - if you go to the church and see people are dressed up, go back home and change!

I dont think its that fancy at all!- the place I have been there numerous times since my aunt is a member there and all her family functions/parties are held there.

Re: Shirt dress for wedding at the Old Field Club?
The owner/designer/tailor, whatever you want to call him, took my measurements yesterday. He's kind of curious on how the pattern and dress will come out b/c of my measurements. He told me he would do the dress as a sample and I have no obligation to buy it if I don't like the way it comes out. He said there's plenty of time to have a "Little Black Dress" made should I decide I want to go that way (I'll probably have a black sheath made anyway.)
Ironically, my sister happen to see the shirtdress in his window and was interested in it (he has a sample on display b/c he's starting a women's ready-made line). She had no clue I've been talking to him until today, so now she's coming with me to talk about having one made as well.

Personally, I wouldn't wear a shirt dress to a wedding. I don't think it's a big deal though, if you feel comfortable and dress it up, go for it.

I don't think so
it's like a regular catering hall inside - I wore a black cocktail dress to our friends wedding there
that dress says lunch after the beach
agreed.
ditto

I agree, although the dress is adorable!

Re: UPDATE and ??? in 1st Post - Shirt dress for wedding at the Old Field Club?
I'm sorry it ddin't work out wth custom dress place. Thats seems like it would have been a great option.
Anyway, I LOVE the new dress. I think it's perfect for that in-between/early evening time & the colors are so pretty.
And it looks like it has plenty of boob-room!

Would a shirt dress be acceptable for an evening wedding at the Old Field Club?
I know the location because I spent many years at West Meadow Beach, but I've never actually been in the Old Field Club (turning around in the parking lot doesn't count. )
The wedding is at the end of August and I was going to have one made. The cut would be similar to this: The above is linen, but the dress I was thinking of would be cotton, pink/white stripes, like below: with the collar and cuffs being white (I haven't decided if I want the button placket white or in the striped fabric.)
Or do I need to start shopping for something a bit dressier?
********************************************* UPDATE: Ok, so I ended up getting turned off on the owner/designer because of his poor customer service and decided not to have him make me a dress (or anything else for that matter.)
Is this acceptable for the OFC wedding?

Jen is that from Saks?

T, yep, it's from Saks (Salon Z). My boobies don't fit into Cache. That's why I was going to have stuff made.
