UPDATE: Dating a co-worker....your thoughts??

So what's your thoughts on dating a co-worker?
I am very close friends with this person...we don't work directly together...but see eachother.

This weekend we got a little closer...I don't know whether I should be doing this Chat Icon or this Chat Icon .

Update 1/29
I decided against persuing this...not just because we are co-workers....timing played a huge role in my decision.

Thanks for the input and advice.

Re: Dating a co-worker....your thoughts??

personally, I think it may be uncomfortable if it doesn't work out but if you do not work directly together, maybe it would be okay

You could always just ignore each other if it comes to that Chat Icon

Re: Dating a co-worker....your thoughts??

I married a co-worker Chat Icon We still work together - after almost 10 years of dating - but not in the same department and we're not even on the same floor anymore.

Actually, there have been quite a few people here who have met their husband or wife (my boss being another)!

There are a lot of married couples at my office. A friend of mine did it also.

It works for them.

I am engaged to my co-worker Chat Icon We teach in the same school district, and used to teach in the same school. We are always professional (so much so no one knew were dating before we got engaged) and it did not affect our relationship negatively. It's the best decision I ever made! Chat Icon If it feels right, go for it!!

Re: Dating a co-worker....your thoughts??

id be VERY careful.

Yes, many couples meet through work. But what if it doesnt work out? Going to work would be very uncomfortable.I met FH at work 5.5 years ago.We dated for 2 months, broke up for 4 months (I hated seeing him at work) then got back together. Though he was a mangaer in another dept, it was hard to see him in passing

But on the bright side, it can work outChat Icon Im marrying the MAN OF MY DREAMS this October

Re: Dating a co-worker....your thoughts??

I did this once and it didn't work out that well. If it is something that may interest you, I agree with the other women here to think about how it would be working together if things did not work out. I was very lucky that we were very friendly and kept up a wonderful work friendship. Let us know what happens

Same here, except we do work in the same department and our offices are about 50 feet from each other. Chat Icon

We kept things very quiet at work for a very long time. No one knew for sure we were dating until about 3 years into it. And even then it was a select few.

Once we got engaged though, EVERYBODY knew.

Go for it. My husband was sort of my coworker for 3.5 years before we started dating. His company had a contract with my company so I would see him at least monthly Chat Icon

I did this and it didn't work out, it was hard. I also worked for a company where gossip was RAMPANT and people were talking crap the whole time, so that made it a lot harder.

I've since left the company and gotten married, but the whole thing left a sour taste in my mouth.

I think you have to be careful, but if you find someone you click with then I say go for it, coworker or not.

It can be hard to find the right person and ruling out anyone you work with can be very limiting.

Besides, if I lived by that I never would have married DH.

I agree with this. If you can handle it, then go for it. You never know where you will find "the one". I married my coworker from my last job Chat Icon Chat Icon
