So if you met someone AMAZING at work and you really clicked and were attracted to each other, you wouldn't pursue it?

I'm just curious for those of you who say absolutely no to coworker dating.

Re: Dating a co-worker....your thoughts??

I've dated a co-worker before and it ended. Things were fine on my end and I didn't have a problem seeing him. He left the job shortly after we broke up.

My friend from high school dated a guy at work for almost 5 years before they got engaged. When they asked him what he did that weekend, he said "Got engaged." They said "TO WHO?" and that's how their co-workers found out they were dating.

I would say proceed with caution, but follow your heart. Often the gems are found right under your nose.Chat Icon

eta. and the HR person in me needs to say this...make sure he's not in a position to influence your job one way or another.Chat Icon

me personally.....don't think about anything else, but listening and following your heart. Really at the end of the day, nothing else matters.

my parents met at work! i think it is great, a very natural way to meet!

of course they are divorced, but they were together for 35 years...

key word being DIVORCED...

This, in my opinion, never works... again, you don't **** where you eat!

So what happens when you decide to call it off with this person; do you up and relocate your JOB because of it? Too much risk for my liking. JMHO!!!

if you can live with seeing him if it doesn't work out- then go for it

great advice - too many times things do not work out and then you have to see your ex on a daily basis
on the other hand - there is always a chance for success
good luck either wayChat Icon

Again, my question is: If you met an AMAZING person and totally hit it off on all levels, you wouldn't pursue JUST because you work together?

To me, that's more risky than your job.

Missing a chance at personal happiness?

There are other jobs. There aren't always other soul mates. Chat Icon

Re: Dating a co-worker....your thoughts??

I met DH at work almost 9 years ago. We've been happily married (most of the timeChat Icon ) for 7 years. My sister also met her boyfriend at work...they now have a beautiful 3 year old son together. As long as you don't work in the same department or with each other, I would say go for it but don't make it obvious to your other co-workers yet. Some companies frown upon employees dating...I'm not sure how big your company is but if it's small word is bound to get around fast. Good Luck!

May sound odd but I'd consider a 35 year old marraige a success. People grow apart. I seriously doubt they were divorced because they met at work 25 years beforehand.Chat Icon

eta. Sorry for the hijack Robyn. I say go for it.

So what's your thoughts on dating a co-worker?
I am very close friends with this person...we don't work directly together...but see eachother.

This weekend we got a little closer...I don't know whether I should be doing this Chat Icon or this Chat Icon .

I dated co-workers twice. One of them played a lot of head games and caused a lot of angst. It was difficult to deal with the situation. The other one did not work out, but I will never regret it. He is a great guy, we are in contact from time to time, and I would still do anything for him if he ever needed me. I guess it's a matter of using your judgment.

2 of my coworkers are engaged but apparently they've been together on and off for years.
The last time I dated a coworker I was in HS and it was a supermarket. Chat Icon

Tough call - we are friends with a couple who met at work and are very happily married now, but I've never done (don't sh*t where you eat).
Like a PP said, if your not afraid to see him if things don't work out, go for it!

Re: Dating a co-worker....your thoughts??

I would say go for it, but just be honest with yourself that co-workers will talk. Not a reason to stop, just a reason to keep it as much to yourself as possible.
