*Update* I don’t understand how a ped office can say there is nothing they can do for DC without seeing him
I am so annoyed and finally demanded they see DS. He has been sick for just about 2 weeks and his Christening is on Sunday. He has always been such a happy baby and he is just not himself lately. I love my doctor but when I called to make DS an appointment the receptionist tells me there is nothing they can do for him its just a cold. How the hell does she know without the doctor seeing him?

I am surprised they didn't bring him in to check his lungs, ears and throat. My ped always makes him come in for a chest check at minimum.

The receptionist should never EVER give "medical" advice. It is her job to make appointments, not diagnosis. I would be very unhappy with this and I would tell your Ped.

first who is the receptionist to say - no it is just a cold.
If it has been 2 weeks - you would think they would want to check him again to see if it hasn't progressed into something else (which I am praying it hasn't )
Is this a new doctors office or the same one you have been going to?
And when you do go, I would tell the doctor what they said at the first desk and tell them that is not acceptable.

He was never checked to begin with! When he first got sick she told me the same thing!!!! I should have demanded then. Its not that he is really sick but something is not right. It could very well be just a cold or a virus that they can't do anything for but I need piece of mind it in fact isnt his throat, ears or lungs.
I plan on telling the doctor when I go.

I plan on telling the doctor when I go. Definitely do so. The Dr needs to know that this is going on.
I hope all is well with your LO.

Re: *Update* I don’t understand how a ped office can say there is nothing they can do for DC without seeing him
Update - He has an ear infection. I told the doctor what had happened and he said something needs to be done and he would take care of it. I am so glad I brought him in but somewhat mad at myself for not demanding to bring him in sooner. I feel so bad that he has been suffering for almost two weeks. I HATE that receptionist and if she tells me that next time I call I am going to rip her a new one!

Oh Jess.... I am so sorry that you had to deal with that!
Thankfully though, you found out what was wrong with DS, and he is his way to being well!

That is terrible! Who is the receptionist to tell you that?
When I call our ped for an appointment, the receptionist says "Sure let me see whats available"..then she says a time, I say "Fine" and Thank You. She has never ever ONCE asked me even why I was bringing him in. I just call and say "Can I bring DS in today to be checked" and that's it.
I hope your Dr. spoke to the receptionist and hate to say it, maybe, she packed up and is no longer working there.

At least the Dr knows now that there is a problem, and hopefully it will be addressed..

UGH...this would annoy me to no end. Someone needs to tell her that it is her job to answer phones and schedule appointments. If she wanted to be a doctor she should have gone to medical school.
Im glad that you finally have an answer. He should be feeling good before you know it.

Just to make you feel better the cold most likely turned into an ear infection so he probably didn't have it for two weeks Good for you for saying something to the Dr, next time you know to demand an appointment!! Hope he is feeling better
