Update in last post FYI - what would dr prescribe for a yeast infection?

Darn it. I took antibiotics last week for a throat infection. I think I am now getting a yeast infection...I see my dr later so I will find out but just curious if anyone knows what is safe to take for a yeast infection while pg (3rd trimester here).

there is a pill called Diflucan - not sure if it's safe to take now - but whenever i've had to take two doses of z-pac, i get a diflucan pill, because that always brings on the itchies for me....but the two doses of z-pac wipes out bronchitis too....

it's a lose, lose..

I looked up Diflucan, which is what i usually take when not pg too. I think it's a no no.

I was worried this was going to happen. I too took the zpack. Ugh. Chat Icon

it is so frustrating...and that's the ONLY medicine that works for me when I have bronchitis...(the z-pac)...so if i couldn't do the diflucan - i have to pray for a year with no bronchitis next year.

i typically get it twice a year... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Does anyone know what a dr would prescribe for a yeast infection?

I have had 3 yeast infections so far....ughhh

My midwife says monistat, the 7 days treatment is what they recomend. You HAVE to do the yucky 7 day plan. If it doesn't clear up by then, I think they prescribe something, but they like to try this first!

Feel better........

Thank you, good to know. I will ask the dr today but I like to know facts beforehand.

Re: Does anyone know what a dr would prescribe for a yeast infection?

I think the Diflucan is definitely a no no. I think even when you're not pregnant they only recommend you take that a limited number of times per year.

Don't be alarmed when anything they prescribe for the infection lists in the liner that pregnant women should "use with caution," "not use" etc...I freaked about this and both my OB, regular doc, and pharmacist assured me that if if one white rat out of 50 million has some kind of affect they have to list it. A midnite call to my OB assured me that I'd be fine and here I am fine as can be.

Re: Does anyone know what a dr would prescribe for a yeast infection?

Thanks everyone. Back from the dr, dr said Monistat is fine and safe. And as we talked about earlier in this thread, Diflucan is NOT allowed in pg.

Re: Update in last post FYI - what would dr prescribe for a yeast infection?

I would recommend getting either the 3 day or the 7 day.....don't get the 1 day....doesn't always work!
