Update on my puppy mill rescue
We rescued a chihuahua from Castaways in PJ on 9/11. He came from a puppy mill in Missouri and was only 8 months old when we got him. It was obvious that he was mistreated or had no social interaction. I posted that he was so afraid he wouldn't come near us, didn't know how to sleep in a bed, or even understand that treats are yummy. We've had Guinness now just over 3 months and it has been a loonnnggg road, with a long road still ahead. He is starting to go outside regularly, eats in a normal routine with the other dogs, took a treat from my hand for the first time two days ago and last night, the biggest milestone so far-came on the couch and laid next to me. He still won't let us pet him, but he is definately getting more confident and gaining trust for us in small ounces. Thanks to everyone who offered advice or words of support. i am going to try and put up a pic of him! ETA: Bc DH didn't want a 3rd, I let him name him so he chose Guinness bc he's black and tan

Re: Update on my puppy mill rescue
My parents adopted a rat terrier puppy mill rescue from Save-A-Pet, which runs Castaways. She is 6ish, and she had a lot of similar issues that Guinness has (and more, because she's spent the past 6 years in a mill and was clearly mistreated like Guinness). She is now the biggest mush!! She will sit with my dad in the chair for HOURS...the two of them just napping the day away . She just started running about 2 weeks ago, and you have to see her go crazy when she comes over to my house. It is adorable!!
Glad that Guinness is warming up and adjusting to you!! He's adorable!!

Re: Update on my puppy mill rescue
Isn't it amazing? He's teaching you patience and how to be accepting and gentle, along with learning how to be part of a family. Dogs with special needs change you too. I'm so glad to hear it's working out so well, and congratulations on your milestone!
