Re: Neighbor/parking in front of house question
ask her if you can park in her driveway since your car won't bottom out. since you can't park in front of your house and her driveway is open, tell her you'll be the azzhole parking in her driveway from now on. maybe she'll get the hint

Re: Neighbor/parking in front of house question
on weekends and days off, as soon as she gets in her van to go somewhere make sure to park one of your or DH's car in that spot in front of your house. Keep doing this every time she leaves, she'll get the hint pretty quick.

UPDATE:
Okay, I have an UPDATE for you! I worked late yesterday, so I called DH at 6 pm to ask what was up with the house. Just to give you some background- NOTHING ever bothers my DH. EVER. He is the nicest, calmest person.
Anyway, I could tell right away he was upset. He said "I'm trying to mow the lawn and not only is she still here, but she's actually ON THE CURB, so I can't mow that section at all and I'm pizzed because I wanted to do this NOW, not over the weekend"
So, HE WENT TO HER HOUSE. No one answered the door. He said he was even more annoyed because they had their other car parked in front of their house and their driveway was empty.
I told him I was on my way home and I was going to park in front of her, regardless of the corner, in the hopes that she'd get the hint.
I got home 45 minutes later and her car was gone.
He told me that she came back, must have gone for a walk because she came from another direction. He told her that he went to her house to ask her to move the car so he could cut the grass and didn't want to push the mower so close to her car in case it would get dirty or damaged. She apologized to him for being "late" today.
DH asked her when she's going to get her driveway fixed. She said "I don't know, but I have to talk to my husband about this tonight because it's really hard to keep moving the car out every morning, walking back to the house and then coming back for it later. I want him to get this taken care of within a month tops."
My DH told her that the town is really hard with the permits. I reminded him that we WANT her to get it taken care of and her situation is different from ours- she already HAS the driveway, we're expanding ours.
So, she told him that she was moving the car now and DH said "Oh good, my wife is on her way home and she's parking here now."
Then she said that she's going to start "mixing it up" so she's not in front of our house everyday.
This morning, I left for work late since I worked late last night. SHE WAS NOWHERE TO BE SEEN. Not on my block AT ALL. I didn't pass her house, but my guess is that she put it back in her driveway.
So, I just have to make sure that DH or I park in front of the house tonight or tomorrow because of Labor Day (the parking rules are still in effect regardless of the holiday)

Re: UPDATE ON PAGE 2 Neighbor/parking in front of house question
that's definitely an improvement...
i have a question, kind of realted... i get that she doesn't park in her driveway because her van "bottoms out" when she parks there... exactly how fast is she pulling into the driveway?? i know of plenty of driveways where i would bottom out in my honda accord if i pulled in at more than 2 MPH - is there a reason she can't just slow down?

same thought here. there isnt a car on this planet that is lower than the one my dh drives and he manages to get over everything without ripping out his undercarriage.

Re: UPDATE ON PAGE 2 Neighbor/parking in front of house question
Finally my wife and I moving into Levittown with our own garage and driveway. I CAN"T WAIT for that.
Comming from queens, ny I can tell you that parking is the worst. It takes me 15 minutes to drive home from work, but finding parking at least another 15 minutes and usually you have to park blocks from your home.
2 family houses here, have about 4 cars per house. There is just not that much area for parking.

Re: UPDATE ON PAGE 2 Neighbor/parking in front of house question
Maybe she reads LIF
We had that problem too - my neighbor across from me has about 4 cars. He would park his disgusting ugly van in front of my house while the spot in front of his house was empty. Finally my DH talked to him and said that my cousin was going to park there every day to walk to the train (which she was) and he got the hint. So annoying!

Re: UPDATE ON PAGE 2 Neighbor/parking in front of house question
I don't think there is anything you can do, except ask her not to park in front of your house. It is excessive that she parks there all the time and only in front of your house, but be careful how you word things. ..... We have a neighbor (we rent from my sis, but are in the process of moving into our house) who was extremely snotty Extremely rude and mean about us parking in front of their house. We have only parked there a handful of times in the past 3 years and only if someone was in our spot. Since then though, we tell our friends to park in front of their house when they come over.

Do you rent legally or illegally? If you are renting illegally, to be honest I don't blame your neighbor (if a homeowner) getting annoyed at a car from an illegal rental in front of their home. Many homeowners frown upon illegal rentals for reasons such as this (streets with added vehicle congestion) etc. I know there was one across from me and I made sure to tell the homeowners I will not be happy if they or their guests park in front of my home just b/c they have added cars from their rental. They were sure to oblige, they don't want to give me a reason to report their illegal rental. I refuse to pay the price for their illegal rental with added congestion in front of my home.
So if street parking is tough due to added vehicles from illegal rentals, a homeowner would have every right to be annoyed. Just another perspective.

I would not park in the driveway and leave your or DH's car out on the street. there are other houses she can park in front of , very annoying!

Re: UPDATE ON PAGE 2 Neighbor/parking in front of house question
This is tara's husband Philby. I can sympothize with you on the parking situation. My neighbors across the street park behind my driveway all the time and I can not get my truck out without doing a 10 point turn! We have narrow streets in our neighborhood. For years (really two years) I told them I could not get out and he laughed saying that he pays his taxes and can park where he wants. Unfortunately this is true. I agree with the goobster and feel you should tell them that you did not buy your house to look at their crappy minivan! They know it is an issue that is why he intrduced himself as the a-hole. I would personally park there for a month or so even after you widen your driveway just so they are not there.

Re: UPDATE ON PAGE 2 Neighbor/parking in front of house question
Just start parking on the street and not in the driveway
Our neighbor would always park in front of our house. No one parked in front of her house. No one parked in front of the house (next to us) across from her. Once we started parking in front of our house and not in our driveway she go the hint

Yeah, I know it's not a matter of my "rights". I have no rights to the street in front of the house. It's a matter of what should I say to her, if anything at all.
The thoughts that go through my mind are "I didn't chose your house for you. I chose mine for exactly the same reason that you are parking in front of it- because I'm allowed to during the day, except I paid a higher price for a luxury that I can't enjoy now." Or "I go to work everyday to pay for the exansion on my driveway, which will make it easier for you to park your car in front of my house each day while I'm working and you're home." Or, "I'd like to be able to see *my* car from my bedroom window in case something happens to it, not yours." And the most prevalent thought I have is that I would have ASKED the homeowner if they minded or if I was in their way- not just decreed to the homeowner that I'd be parking in front of their house from now on.
Or, I guess I could just ask "when are you getting your driveway fixed so you can keep YOUR car THERE?"
I may have a solution, if i understood the annoyance correctly... i am thinking you have a driveway and some road space... your car goes in driveway, DHs in the street. Can you park YOUR DHs car smack in the middle so a car cannot be parked in front or behind? do that for a couple days and you will see the problem go away! would that work??
