***UPDATED***RIP Coco... not even my pet and I am so sad
UPDATE:
So we left a sympathy card and a nice bunch of flowers on their doorstep. The wife left us a voicemail over the weekend saying how much it meant to them.
I feel horrible, she sounded so broken up on the message. She said that since they don't have children of their own, their cats are like their kids.  Hopefully they will find comfort in knowing how well they took care of Coco!
So this morning I was taking DS to work and I saw something on the road down the street. I was hoping that it was just a shirt or something like that.
As I passed by, I realized that a black cat had been hit and killed (really messy) on the street and was laying in the center of the road.
Then I realized that it was right in front of the house that sits sort of behind us and they have a black cat.
On the way back from dropping DS off, my fears were confirmed when I saw the woman who lives in the house on the sidewalk hysterically crying, talking to a police man.
Our neighbor's cat Coco was killed by a car and unfortunately his owner had to see him dead on the street in a very unpleasant way.
This woman was crazy over Coco. Every day we would hear the same routine.... "Coco... clap, clap, clap" She would use that to call him home every day.
I feel horrible and want to bring something over to her. Not sure what though. Any suggestions?

Oh my God.
I am sick over this too.
I can't imagine- can not imagine this happening. I don't think I'd be able to function if it was my cat that I saw like that.
(shudder)
That's sweet of you to bring her something. How about something like cookies or brownies? I know after my cat passed away I spent the whole week just wanting to eat comfort food and junk food.
Or a bouquet of flowers or something?

How terribly sad. I think it would be very nice of you to bring this woman something. So many times when we lose a pet we feel alone and like people don't understand. It would be such a nice gesture to show her your sympathy.

that is sooo sad. and also so sweet of you to care so much. it's true, a lot of people "take for granted" how we feel about our pets and don't take a death seriously. but they are part of our families! i think bringing some baked goods over would be a very sweet gesture.

That was very nice of you.
I'm glad she appreciated it.
I can only imagine how horrendous that must have been for her.
That is why I never let my cats out... because that is my BIGGEST fear!

That really was very thoughtful!! What a wonderful, caring neighbor you are!!
I feel like sometimes people don't realize just how traumatic the loss of a pet can be for some people... especially if you come outside your house and see your cat the result of being run over by a car. I wanted to make sure that we were thinking about them and understand how heartbreaking it can be.
I had a cat that was hit by a car once... luckily she came back with scratches and a broken leg... it is scary.
