I think DS was 26 months. Definitely after he turned 2.

Re: When did your child sit forward facing in car seat?
My girls (5y/o and 6y/o) we switched at 12 months. Only because we didn't know better.
My DS turned 2 on March 25th and we switched him around 2 days ago. We only switched so he could see the tv in a long car drive. I plan to turn him back to rear facing for a while longer.

When did your child sit forward facing in car seat?
We turned DD at 15 months because any ride in the car was very unpleasant. She was so much happier FF and so were we. At first I was a little concerned but I got over it quickly once the crying stopped.

13 months, no regrets! Rides RF were nightmares. Since he's been FF I love taking him anywhere.

Re: When did your child sit forward facing in car seat?
My twins are 28 months and still rear facing. I have an 8 month old too so one of my twins is in the back of the minivan still rear facing. I have to put her in through the trunk. It's inconvenient but i don't plan on switching them until they are closer to three or three. Their legs are bent and they don't seem to be bothered by it.

Here is just one of many videos that shows why rear facing is safer:

Re: When did your child sit forward facing in car seat?
2. Safest way for toddlers to ride is RF. Period. Tons of research out there. If your child is not absolutely miserable and causing a diversion when you are driving leave them RF as long as possible. The only reason I switched mine is because they were at the RF limit for weight.

Re: When did your child sit forward facing in car seat?
DD is 19 months old and in the 90th percentile for height and is just fine rear-facing.
I know it's a PITA to get them in and out of a RF seat. But children sitting rear-facing have a 90 PERCENT less chance of death in a car crash. That's worth the extra 90 seconds' annoyance of strapping her down backwards.

When did your child sit forward facing in car seat?
DS will be 2 soon and I have no plans of turning him FF anytime in the near future. It's proven that its safer, so RF he'll stay.

I just switched DS at 15 months. He was too squished and just didn't look comfortable.

Wow. I cringed just imagining that was real.
But - my first thought was that the straps seemed loose. If the strap is tight against their chest and level with the armpits, wouldn't it keep their head from going forward so much?

UPDATE...When did your child sit forward facing in car seat?
After he turned 2 -- like the newer laws say. He was a little squished but I couldn't have cared less. If God forbid we were in an accident, and he was injured, I'd rather it be his legs that got broken than his neck.

There is no law that says they have to be 2.
I turned ds1 at 22 months and ds2 at 16 months. The constant crying from ds2 was gonna cause me to have an accident more than anything.

I feel like my 18 month old is getting squished in his car seat...I know the recommendation is that a child be between 1-3 and and be rear facing, but I just don't see how this is possible...his poor little legs are getting bent....when did you switch it around? Going to a car seat safety even tomorrow, so I'm hoping they can help me out...thanks for your input
UPDATE: So, I went to a car seat safety check in Farmingdale today and I talked to the safety inspector and he checked the seat and my son sitting in it. He explained the benefits of having the seat rear facing...and I totally agreed...so my little guy is still a rear facing baby....I rather risk him having broken legs than a brain or spinal injury...never thought of it that way....totally scary....I really appreciate all of your input and advice....Thank you all so much
Great update!! Glad you've decided to keep your lil one RFing longer!!
