Upgrading electric
Do they have to punch holes in your walls or anything? This is one of the first things we want to do, in addition to fixing 2 electrical problems and adding a couple of outlets.
I know the other work will require holes and wire pulls. But what does it take to upgrade from 100 amp to 200 amp?
Thanks goils.

Re: Upgrading electric
I *think* that only requires an upgraded box and possibly a larger incoming line? Not quite sure, though....

Re: Upgrading electric
We had a new cable come into the front of the house, but it was down low behind the bushes.
The box was in the same spot. They did run a ton of wires but it was down in our basement and we had the ceiling and some walls all open for them at the time since we were in the middle of redoing our basement.

Re: Upgrading electric
yup.. we had this done on our old house in 2006. it took the guy two days. i beleive all he had to do was put in a new box, and then run a new line from the street to the house.... no holes in teh walls or anything like that. i remember the one day, he had to have the electric off most of the day, so i would be prepared for that...

Re: Upgrading electric
Breaker is in the basement, and all the lines come in on the corner right by it, so that will be good.
Now I'm wondering if we should have it done before we move in, if it means no electric for more than a day.
Thanks ladies.

Re: Upgrading electric
I think they just do it through the box - we are doing this too and I don't recall being told anything about holes in walls.

Re: Upgrading electric
Ours took less than a day so you can do it before or after you move in.
If you plan on doing work before you move in though that requires electrical tools, it might be good to do the upgrade first.
