Valentines ideas?
What are you sending into school for Valentine’s Day? We aren’t allowed to send food or candy. In past years we have always done some kind of candy or lip balm. I was hoping they wouldn’t do any kind of celebration this year, considering my district is only in school for 5 half days. But no such luck.

My son is in K. We are allowed to send cards in for each classmate but they have to be by Feb 1 so they can quarantine them before handing them out on the 12th.

Valentines ideas?
I bought valentines but I doubt she'll be able to hand them out in school.
We can send valentines and prepackaged treats to her after school program. They are awesome.

Good thing it's only K and these people aren't teaching science!

Valentines ideas?
My DS’s school is collecting valentines this week. Cards only. They will quarantine for a few days and then the teacher will sort them and they will quarantine again. Honestly seems silly to quarantine them as we get probably 6 worksheets home a day that the teacher has marked up.

Omg same in our school. I laughed out loud when I read that. Meanwhile, my kids come home with random stuff from friends on a daily basis lol
But I’m glad they get to at least have some sort of normalcy.

No Valentine’s allowed. No celebrations of any kind. The kids are told to pack themselves a special snack to eat on what would’ve normally been party days. They can’t even sing Happy Birthday to each other.

Valentines ideas?
We aren't allowed to exchange this year. They made Valentines this week for Senior Citizens, which are now in quarantine.
ETA - We are never allowed to send in food for Valentines Day so last year I sent in foam fingers from Oriental Trading - they were a big hit.

Re: Valentines ideas?
We've had Halloween, Thanksgiving and Holiday parties so far. We signed up via Sign up genius to send in pre packaged treats like individual pretzel bags, individually wrapped brownies, juice boxes etc. For the holiday party they had 2 boxes of hot chocolate from Dunkin brought in and everyone sent toppings like whipped cream, candy canes, marshmallows, etc and they had a make your own hot cocoa party. Not sure what VDay will be yet but I'm sure it will be similar. Miraculously we are all still alive and kicking even though we did not quarantine the marshmallows for 2 weeks

My DD's classes, K and Pre-K, are both having Valentine's Day parties on the 12th and we are allowed to send in cards, goodie bags, and pre packaged snacks. That day. Not 10 days before to quarantine. Like your school, this was the same protocol for Halloween, Christmas, and birthdays. They are even allowed to sing to the birthday child, with masks on. I never thought twice about it. I mean, they order pizza for the whole school every Friday (the parents pay extra for it) and using gloves, the teacher opens the box and takes out slices for each child. I never thought of it as unsafe.

It's not unsafe. It's the same as getting pizza at a pizzeria where a masked and gloved food service worker serves you your slice. Or the school lunch that is delivered daily to my daughter's classroom and handed to her. I swear I struggle to understand some of these over the top rules that make absolutely no sense whatsoever

This, except no snack (they don't get too hungry in 2 hours).
A kid brought in individual packs of cookies (Milanos-so def not homemade) last week for his birthday and the teacher refused to hand them out. The mom stood outside asking each child if they wanted cookies. DD got 2 cause so many kids/parents didn't realize and left. So basically, his "school birthday" was ruined.

I’m so sad for these kids. And I’m so over people saying “they are kids and they will bounce back just fine”.
I know we’re in a pandemic, but not singing happy birthday while wearing a mask?!?! These kids are going to be walking mental health issues with no emotions.
I’m beginning to understand why my kids don’t want to go to school anymore and I feel terrible telling them how lucky they are to be in school in-person....maybe they aren’t?!?!

I definitely don't understand the no "Happy Birthday" with masks on... That makes no sense.

That is terrible. I think in these times.you really have to check with teacher first. As stupid as it sounds most schools arent allowing food for birthdays, even if pre-packaged. I checked with teacher first and for DDs birthday we brought in these tiny lego type building sets for each kid that we bought on Amazon since they were not allowing food of any kind...

Valentines ideas?
We got some valentines cards from Amazon that have stickers to make your own face on a blank face sticker on the card. I thought it was a cute activity and not just a plain old card

Thats nuts. Feel bad for those kids.
They celebrate everything at my daughters school. No food treats allowed but they still do things. On birthdays the principal comes with the birthday cart for them to pick a prize bag with little toys and goodies inside.

Valentines ideas?
We’ve never been allowed food, so always do a card with a little something extra (playdoh, slime, pencil, eraser, glowstick ). Some people just do a card. I wouldn’t overthink it.

This is absurd! There’s plenty of research now that covid does not live on surfaces for more than a few hours. 12 days is ridiculous

This is what is so frustrating. Where do these schools come up with these nonsense rules? Who are they consulting about this? It's clearly not scientists or medical professionals.
