Vegan wedding girl back
I think it all sounds good.
Honestly most wedding food is not great, I would rather eat something different - A portabello sounds way better than dry chicken.

ala vodka sauce has cream and butter. no bueno for a vegan.
unless they can make a vegan version of it. not sure how that would taste. probably not much like ala vodka sauce
OK so bad example clearly I never make it and just buy it is regular tomato sauce not vegan??
PS this is why I could never be a vegan!!!

What if they made the ala vodka sauce without the cream and butter... and put it in a glass with a celery stalk...
Bloody Mary's are vegan, right?

Another issue I have is vegetables do NOT agree with my stomach. For example, if I eat peppers, I suffer all day after. They repeat on me like crazy, and give me major gas pains. I have real issues digesting vegetables.

I am not a big veggie person except for the steamed stuff in bags that I feed my kids PLEASE DONT JUDGE ME. I don't like mushrooms in fact I pretend that I'm allergic to them like my mother in law does. Sorry but I love Wendys, Taco Bell and even a good chicken sandwich from Burger King and my kids do eat Mc Donalds maybe once every two months or so. It will be interesting to see what is offered at the cocktail hour. I asked her if she was having one and she never responded to me.
You sound like my spirit animal I do like mushrooms but I tell people I am allergic to feta cheese- I just can't stand it- so your mushroom story made me laugh.
Even the veges in the bag make me gag. Not a fan of any of it Plus they give me major digestive issues

Hey, that's your thing. I'm vegetarian but Taco Bell is the first love of my life, and now that White Castle offers veggie sliders, I've been known to go in there even when I'm *not* drunk!
Does the venue have a website with menus available? Maybe you could get an idea from there re: cocktail hour offerings.
I've been to weddings with various types of menus: vegetarian (well, that was mine lol...and since dairy was a-okay, that made things more palatable for our guests), Indian, Kosher, halal, Chinese...honestly the ones that I've hit the drive thru after were the typical Long Island ones!
Pre game the affair with a slice of pizza or something, this way you at least have a landing pad in place for the booze

Re: Vegan wedding girl back
I'm a meat-eater and those options sound fine to me. Probably because I don't mind vegetables. I could see how if you're not into vegetables you'd be at a loss for what to pick. They should have totally offered at least a pasta dish for people that don't care for peppers or mushrooms. I guess pasta with tomato sauce or with garlic and oil just doesn't sound as fancy on the menu as quinoa and portobellos lol.

If there are decent appetizers eat as much as you can and save some for dinner.

My husband is "allergic" to raisins. There is sandwich he likes at a place we frequent that comes on raisin walnut bread. He always asks for it on plain bread instead & they are happy to switch it. We joke that if it was an issue he would say he was allergic to nuts, and hope they didn't notice when he ordered the pecan pie for dessert!
I love vergetables, but my problem withte weddign menu is the tofu, fake cheese, and ( to a lesser extent) the quinoa.
Mushrooms are polarizng--most of my family doesn't like them (I checked with the vegetarians before my wedding) and a lot of people, especially older people can't digest peppers.)
I'm pretty sure my mom would eat the quinoa & spring vegetables out of the pepper, because she wouldn't like any of these either.
My favorite thing that is naturally vegan is guacamole! It's not so fancy for a wedding, but maybe they could work that into an appetizer.
I remember being 10 & my uncle had his backyard wedding catered by a restaurant that was trendy at the time & only liking the bagel chips at the cocktail hour & then sitting with my really picky grandfather, scraping the beansprouts out of the stuffed chicken breasts. And then my mom made me PB & J when we got home.

Lol DH does this, anything he doesn't like he says he's allergic to. It's especially entertaining in the fall with all the pumpkin stuff considering his "allergy".

Re: Vegan wedding girl back
LOL! I once asked a waitress at an event to take my salad in the back and wash off all the Parmesan cheese or feta or whatever stinky cheese was on it and then return it to me. I find that most hosts at these events always choose the Cesar salad....so i never get to eat the salad course!

I was thinking along these lines too. If people are eating a ton more veggies than they're used to things may get a little smelly

They should give little travel size packs of Gas X with the favors.

Re: Vegan wedding girl back
OP you mentioned that the groom ate non-vegan food at your house. Are they not strict then? Is it the bride that is strictly vegan? It's odd that they would restrict their wedding menu if they are lax.

Re: Vegan wedding girl back
I've been to weddings where the food sucked anyway, chicken and meat were flavorless and dry. So all I ate was the pasta entree.
I think the worse thing at a wedding is cash bar or horrible music. That would ruin my day, not the cash bar but the music. Food to me is like whatever or a dry wedding.. is

I think my cousin the bride is strict but her fiance was eating the non vegan food at my house so I don't think he is strict. I did find out that they are having a cocktail hour that is about an hour long. Wondering what kind of food will be served then.

We have a close friend who is vegan and she makes some awesome food. I bet you will be pleasantly surprised. Go in with an open mind.

I would go with the stuffed peppers, that sounds the most appealing. I personally would have to eat prior due to diet restrictions (need protein), but it wouldn't bother me that they weren't serving meat. Hoping you have a great time!

Re: Vegan wedding girl back
I don't think those choices sound that bad and would be okay with any of them.
I've been to a bunch of weddings in CT and while the cocktail hour may not be as over the top as many LI ones are, they offered a lot more than cheese and crackers. Regardless of what state you're in, the quantity and quality of the food will depend on the venue. You could always stop off somewhere on the way to or from the wedding if you're concerned about being hungry.

Re: Vegan wedding girl back
My wedding was in CT, and the cocktail hour had the same amount of food as an LI wedding. We did a COUPLE of upgrades, but not a ton; the venue mostly just came like that.
However, we did look at a couple of other halls in CT, and the menus for cocktail hour were scanty, one of the reasons we didn't select those venues.
I am pretty open to trying new foods, but don't love meat, cheese, pasta, etc., substitutes; the ones I've tried have made me gag. I would probably opt for the mushroom since that sounds like it has the most natural ingredients.
Where is the wedding at?

Vegan wedding girl back
The Barns at Wesleyan Hills in Middletown. It is and all Vegan wedding. They announced it on their website and even gave us some other websites to look at to understand why they have this lifestyle.
As many of you know, we are vegan. This means we do not eat, wear, or use animals in any way. We absolutely love being vegan, and living this compassionate lifestyle makes our hearts happy every day!
We want this day to truly reflect who we are, how we live, and what we believe. We're proud to say our entire wedding will be vegan and cruelty free, from the food and alcohol to the bride and groom's attire. This way of life is so important to us, and we couldn't imagine our wedding any other way.
We look forward to introducing you to delicious vegan cuisine and thank you for embracing this special part of our wedding!
If you're interested in learning more, check out Forks Over Knives, Cowspiracy, What the Health, and Vegucated.
I feel guilty now for wanting to look up to see if there is a fast food place near by.
