Vent!: Do you live by your cell phone?
Well I dont! I have my cell phone for short calls. I realize that having a land line phone, for some people nowadays is almost unheard of but that doesnt mean that I want to be called, when I am out with my husband to talk about how miserable your life is. If you think you are going to be on the phone for more than 5 minutes, wait til I get home. Yes I know you tried me there first, I checked the caller ID. Unless it is an emergency, leave me alone please.

I just keep thinking that if my cell phone is stolen or I drop it in the toilet, I am screwed. I will always have a landline phone.

I keep mine on b/c I have an elderly mother who isnt well. But other than that, I prefer to limit my calls to other NECESSITIES.

This is exactly why I don't give out my number. And I screen the incoming calls. And I tell people I don't really check the messages, since I have a pre-pay that I only use for emergencies and when I travel.

We have a landline and the cells.
Main reasons we have both is because when we had Hurricane Charlie we had no power for 3 days which meant no phone service. We had the car charger so our phones would stay off and be used when necessary and the quick charge from the car if it needed it. Worked out great.
Also we both do a lot of driving on the highway. Exits are often 3 - 10 miles apart so if something happened it's good to have the cell. Especially if you get stuck because their is an accident and your running late into work.

We don't have a landline which pisses my family off royally -- but we both have cell phones.
It would be a good concept if my cellphone worked all the time but its sucky and I get horribly reception.

I understand having a phone for those instances but when I am not home and someone calls my cell phone (knowing full well I have both types) to discuss their day, I get a little miffed and then THEY get PO'd when I dont wanna talk!. I am not home because I am out and busy doing other things. Before cell phones, people left messages. Leave a message. I DO call back!

i use my cell ohone about 10 minutes a week.
i don't have a land line right now, because we just moved and it's killing me to not have an answering machine to check when i come home......
i dont' really like using a cell phone....especially in public! i don't need other people listening in on my calls!

I love you for saying this. I feel the same way. When I am out, I am OUT. I have no desire to talk on the phone when I am shopping, out to eat or driving. Please leave me a message at work, or at home, I have voice mail or a machine in both places.
To add to my vent, I don't really like talking on cell phones to begin with, but when your phone cuts out 4 times in one conversation, stop calling me back! Wait until you get home!

I don't like cell phones and will not use them for long conversations. Also for some reason I wouldn't be comfortable not having a landline.

hey, if you don't wanna use your cell when you're busy, just don't answer it! Thats the convenience of it.
you could even keep it on silent, so you don't even know when it rings - if you want.
I never leave home without it.

i mean, people have every right to complain about them...people can complain about whatever they choose....but there's always the option of a) not carrying it; b) keeping it off; c) keeping it on silent.
Its just like anything else - if you don't like a tv show, just don't watch it! right?!?

No, I use it for quick calls while I'm out and about. I personally would never NOT have a landline especially now with the baby.

that's a great point....but some people have to keep them on for certain calls, even when they're out. The original poster said she keeps it on because her mother is sick, so she wants people to be able to get in touch with her.
