i mean, people have every right to complain about them...people can complain about whatever they choose....but there's always the option of a) not carrying it; b) keeping it off; c) keeping it on silent.

that's a great point....but some people have to keep them on for certain calls, even when they're out. The original poster said she keeps it on because her mother is sick, so she wants people to be able to get in touch with her.

exactly - and thats a great reason to have a cell.

Re: Vent!: Do you live by your cell phone?

Honestly, I don't even have a cell phone. My DH does through work, but I don't. I have digital phone at home. I should have one because I drive around a lot with my son though. Chat Icon I just see it as an extra expense we don't need right now.

I personally prefer to talk to people from home. It's easier. I HATE when people are talking on cell phones while they're driving or on line at the store. Chat Icon

I had a cell phone once for a year about 7 years ago? Chat Icon It was cool because I was younger, but other than that it wasn't really necessary. Now I feel a need for it, I just haven't gotten one yet. I might just get one for emergencies.

Well I dont! I have my cell phone for short calls. I realize that having a land line phone, for some people nowadays is almost unheard of but that doesnt mean that I want to be called, when I am out with my husband to talk about how miserable your life is. If you think you are going to be on the phone for more than 5 minutes, wait til I get home. Yes I know you tried me there first, I checked the caller ID. Unless it is an emergency, leave me alone please.

Amen Sista!!!! I couldn't tell you the last time I even had my cell phone on for any length of time. Last month I only used 3 minutes.

I guess I'm old school. If I'm out running around, doing a million things, why do I want a million and one? I love these people who will have their dog, three kids, groceries all going in the SUV and they are also talking on the phoneChat Icon Spend time with the people you are with. Most of the time the conversations are so not important.

Re: Vent!: Do you live by your cell phone?

I just recently got another cell phone. Didn't really want a new one but with how far apart DH and I work from each other, it became a necessity vs. a luxury.
I will answer my phone while I'm out in case I am being contacted about an emergency, and if it's just someone calling to chit-chat and I'm busy, I have no problem saying, "I'm doing such and such, can I call you back when I get home"?

Since I have 2 jobs that dont let us keep them on, which I think is right anyway, my phone is off for the day. But...as soon as I leave those jobs, my phone is on and whoever wants to call, may call.Chat Icon
I got the cell phone for emergencies (along with AAA). I also use the text messaging a lot (like when my sis is in class.)..

Re: Vent!: Do you live by your cell phone?

I basically do live by my cell phone, however, I do not answer it all the time. I sometimes shut it off when I really do not feel like being reached. It annoys me that people can get me on the phone WHERE EVER I AM. But still, I do live by it. I just thank god for caller id because I hardly ever actually pick my phone up. I just let whoever is calling leave a message.

ETA: I also usually keep my phone on vibrate so I am not that annoying person whose phone keeps going off!

that drives me crazy. when you call my home, leave a msg. dont immediately call me on my cell when you know that i am out just to talk about nothing. (i actually hate that at home too. who wants to sit on the phone after working and on the phone all day!)

my friends & I usually just text bc I feel rude answering if i am out with someone (even if its just me & DH). that way you can respond (quietly) when you have a free moment!

Re: Vent!: Do you live by your cell phone?

i dont really get the point of complaining about people calling your cell phone!
i mean, you GAVE them the number obviously!
if you dont want to talk to them
A)dont give your # out
B)dont answer
C)tell them to please only call your house unless an emergency

its as simple as can be imo.

It is not the fact that they call, it is the extended calls that can be irksome. There are just some people who make the assumption that others have time to chat whereever they are and they dont. You'd be surprised how many people are offended when you say "Can you call me at home?" or when you say you will call them later. Most of the voice mails I get when I DO ignore the calls say "I am just calling to see what's up."

the point is, the OP is saying that when she gets BS calls on her cell, to talk about really "nothing"...it gets annoying.
