Vent: Mom complaining to everyone...
About my girl name. Now that we know it's a girl, and that the name is very possible, she takes every opportunity to tell everyone she knows how much she hates the name I picked and how she's going to call the baby by a different name  This is her main focus. Not that the baby is healthy, not that I'm happy, just the freakin name. As much as I tell her I don't give a damn about what she says, the more under my skin she gets.
I have never in my life expected this but it's a shame that she's missing out on what's really important. And this attitude is something I will never forget.
Eta: Mom, if you happen to be on here reading this for whatever reason, it's not my mood swings... It's just you

and I am going through the same thing with my father in law. He hates the name Aidan. Oh well not his kid. He will have to deal.
dont let your mom bother you. Once she sees that baby she will not care what her name is

I can def relate. My sister just had a baby and named him Lucas- my mom wasn’t thrilled with the name and told her every chance she got. I had to tell my mother how rude that was and she eventually stopped and now loves the name.

What a coincidence that you posted this, cause I posted on thebump today how annoyed some of my friends were that we weren't telling them any of the names we were thinking of...
Would your mom really call the baby by another name?!!! That's ridiculous.
I'm so sorry your Mom is causing you this stress. It's about what you and your SO want and that's it.

This is what I've told her. And that she'll earn to like it The name I like is Lia. Rose possibly for the middle name. I'm not sure why she has such a disgust towards it. But this coming from the same woman who almost named me roxanne

This is why I told DH to stop telling everyone baby's names. I wanted to keep that one a secret since we are finding out the sex but he spilt the beans at Thanksgiving. He has received a few comments about how the boy name can get picked on and now he wants to change it!!
I'm sorry that your Mom isn't being very supportive. I don't think my Mom is too crazy my names but, it's my baby and to be honest, I hate mine!

Thank you girls for your support! She knows all too well that I wouldn't change it just bc she doesn't like it and she prob hates not having that control. It's just frustrating that she even has to voice her opinion so loudly, but I'm sure she looks like a complete nut to everyone she vents to.

I think the name is beautiful, just for the record. I can relate. We didn't tell my mom one specific name because I know she'll hate it no matter what it is. But she does keep making her own suggestions even though I've told her several times that I'm not looking for suggestions. She's stuck on one particular name and I finally said to her "when you have another baby YOU can name him that name." I doubt I've heard the end of it but what can you do? Everyone's going to have an opinion but at the end of the day, it's none of your mom's business. Try not to let it bother you too much or let this sway your decision on your baby's name.

My parents didn't like DD's name before she was born, either. Too bad- so sad. They got over it and have never made a comment since she's been born.

With DS no one liked his name when we told them what we were going to name him. Now they say they cant see him being named anything else. His name is Seamus Finn
For this baby we told them our names and they dont like them lol Oh well its our child

I would not call her for a bit, when she asks why tell her you're sick of hearing her rude, unsolicited comments about the name you chose for your daughter. I would also tell her that if she plans on trying to call the baby by another name to not plan on seeing the baby.
But things like this really annoy me and when annoyed I can be spiteful.

I'm sorry you are going through this. I think your view point on it is fabulous. Shame on your mom for not keeping it to herself and embracing the fact that her baby is having a baby.
Keep strong, you have chosen a beautiful name!
For the record, when my mom had me, her MIL went bats*^t b/c she didnt name me after her. Now no offense to anyone who has the name but my mother was not loving the name, Gaytana.
Keep your chin up and focus on your beautiful baby girl!

Lia is a beautiful name!! I know how you feel my mom and inlaws were saying they didnt like the name we picked either. We chose Aria Rose. I love the name and it has a significant meaning for DH and I. Thank goodness my sister is pregnant so they can go name harass her.

Thank you hun! She is so freakin stubborn that this thread wouldnt make a difference to her... The more I think about it, the more I'm just really sad that she's letting something so petty ruin such a wonderful time for her as a 1st time grandma... I've spoken to my father about her behavior and hes just as sick and disgusted by it as I am... He's tried talking to her as well, but like I said, she listens to no one but herself
Hearing all your thoughts and just thinking things over, I've decided that I've just got to move on from this issue... Thanks again girls for just being here
