Vent: You know there are people who DONT find out the sex

Ok i realize that it is very common these days for people to find out the sex of their baby.

We however have chosen not to. Well, try telling that to someone these days. They all look at you and give you that "Oh come on" look.

Then, today for fun i was looking at shower invites and they are SO geared towards either girl or boy. The gender neutral ones su cked IMO.

From what i have seen from this site, there are a decent amt of us not finding out. So i wouldnt be too far off if i guessed that decent amt of people in general chose not to find out. SO why cant there be better gender neutral things?

I completely agree with you! As a fellow team green member, I agree that it is tough to find gender neutral things out there. I couldn't find gender neutral bedding that I really liked so my mother made the bedding for me. Also, today I was at BRU and now they only make the Diaper Champ in pink or blue so I had to get a different diaper pail. To me those things are wacky!

We're Team Green as well, and my mom was already complaining that there aren't really any cute gender neutral clothes out there. She's dying to start shopping!

Yay I agree, everyone looks at me like, how can you not find out??? Even my DH...b/c I won't let us know, lol..but people have bets that I will cave and find out...I know I won't, lol

I am not one to be able to wait. I'm a planner and like to know everything. Same for my DH. We always wanted to find out, even before we were TTC.

However, whenever I hear someone say they are waiting to find out, I say good for them. My immediate response is, "How exciting!!".

I'm sure the couple is getting a lot of pressure from family to find out, and quite honestly it's their choice 100% (the mom & dad to be).

It's so funny you said this. I had the opposite reaction. Everyone asks if we are finding out and they all respond with "really?? why!? waiting is exciting!" IMO people are going to talk either way

I find people either say :

"good for you! It's a great surprise! Nobody waits anymore"

or

they almost get annoyed, because I'm making THEM wait to find out.

it's killing my coworkers who don't have the patience to wait for anything


I think it's exciting!

my sister has 4 children, she kept 3 a surprise and found out for 1. She said they preferred the surprise!

As for the "you'll get alot of yellow and green at the shower, you need to find out"
I dont care. I'm a shopper, I'll be thrilled to go out and buy pink or blue outfits myself.

Team Green here too! We're doing the whole room is a greenish yellow forest theme, but you're right... it's really hard to find gender neutral stuff. I'm not having a Baby Shower so I won't be getting anything till the baby is born and of course we'll know the sex then so that's the only easy part. I do love green though.

My sister is experiencing similar problems with being on team . She's not loving any of the gender netural strollers or bedding sets, since she's not into yellow/green really. She decided on a black/white bedding set which is cute, but it took her forever to find something not yellow/green.

I don't know, I have had a totally different experience - whenever someone asks and I tell them we aren't finding out, they usually get very excited for me, tell me they admire me because they couldn't do it, and then make their best guess. As for gender neutral stuff, yeah, a lot of it is crap, though I really do think the neutral 0-6 months clothes at Carters are absolutely adorable. ANd trust me, once that baby comes out, your house will become filled with either blue or pink within NANOSECONDS

Considering I was on the fence when we first got our BFP, I can relate to your feelings. I didn't want to find out but DH truly wanted to so we could plan better. After weighing the pros & cons, I decided to find out. A lot of my decision did weigh on the fact that the gender neutral stuff that is out there was limited & I guess bc the option is there to find out, a lot of stores have decreased their supplies.

Honestly I think it is fabulous for those that wait until they deliver to find out! No matter what, this is such an exciting time for everyone, so don't let people get you down. I think people are more shocked that people don't find out now

I actually am not having a problem with other people at all! I can't believe someone would have an attitude about it!!

I have alot of people saying- Wow- you have WILLPOWER and stuff like that, and my dad told us that if we found out- HE didn't want to know!

I DO agree about there being very little gender neutral stuff, but I disagree about there being alot of yellow and green. I have been searching for good yellow bedding and can't find it ANYWHERE!!! It's very annoying. Since when does nobody carry yellow baby stuff? EVERYTHING is pink or blue, pink or blue.

The worst I have seen is the restoration hardware catalog. They have zero gender neutral stuff, which makes me sad because it's all gorgeous!

I get the opposite. I get a lot of negative reactions from people that I am finding out the sex. It's your decision, not theirs!

It's funny - it seems about half and half for us with peoples reactions. A lot of people tell us "Wow that's great! The surprise is the best" but then I have some people - a certain nosey unnamed coworker - who "jokingly" says to me "No, if you don't want to find out, you shouldn't - if you want to be stupid like my sister...just tell the doctor he can call me directly. ;)" I was like WTH?!

My SIL is also a super planner so she can't stand that we didn't find out. She's had her new daughter's nursery ready forever and she's not due till June.

I can see the allure of being able to buy stuff now- -if its a girl especially with all those pretty outfits, but really, I figure once the baby is here we can do all that.

Trying to find gender neutral bedding annoyed me though I have to admit.

I was Team Green and I got the opposite reaction from people. Everyone was really supportive, which surprised me. It's definitely tough finding gender neutral stuff, but as far as clothes, I'd just get the basics. You'll get a lot of boy or girl clothes after the baby is born.

My sister is probably going to design my shower invites but if you can't find anything I would be more then happy to design something for you,please don't hesitate to ask.

I was looking at bedding the other day and was like ughhhhhhhh, so my Mom and I think we are going to have my nanny make something and just buy neutral sheets.

ETA: my family is very supportive about Team Green!

I am not Team Green but I agree that there should be more gender neutral things out there for people who are.

As for finding out, I get the reaction of "why would you find out? now it's not exciting" great, thanks

This thread makes me laugh...it seems like no matter what side of the fence you are on it's darned if you do, darned if you don't.

I can't even begin to tell you (and I'm only 16 wks) how many people have asked if we are going to find out. DH and I both want to, and a lot of the reactions we get are why, you'll regret it, you're ruining one of the greatest surprises in life...and the list goes on.

I personally respect anyone's decision either way. I'm too curious to wait 40 wks to find out, but I totally admire the people who do wait!!!

I have often wondered the same thing. I'm currently looking for baby shower thank you cards and I've noticed that they are all either pink or blue. Why can't there be something for both?
