Verizon Strike
Just wondering if anyone has any information as to how long this might last? Hoping for all involved that it ends quickly.

Hasn't the leadership communicated anything with its membership?

Re: Verizon Strike
Theres really nothing to communicate with them. The company is being stubborn... negotiations are at a stand still.. hence the strike. The workers arent looking for anything more -- they just want to keep what they have. The company wants to outsource their jobs, and send employees away from their families for months at a time. Corporate greed at its finest.

Re: Verizon Strike
The judge is following the law. Striking workers can't touch management, and can't block doors. They also can't touch other people in mixed use buildings.

Re: Verizon Strike
There are Verizon offices across from my school. While I completely understand their right and need for the strike (and believe they deserve what they are asking for) it is very loud. Last week during testing it we very distracting. Also it has clogged up our very busy street.

Sorry that is distracting to you, but keep in mind those families may not be able to feed their families, pay for their mortgages or live normal lives for a few months. My husband can't sleep at night with fear that this isnt going to end any time soon, and we are going to be in a bad bad place. It could be worse.

I believe she is referring to it being distracting to STUDENTS who are taking a high stakes standardized test.
Sorry your family is going through this

This. I am very sorry for what your family is going through and I agree that Verizon should be providing for their employees but during testing last week it was very distracting to the students when their was yelling. Also because of where we are located in Manhattan traffic got backed up and caused problems for our students. I hope this is quickly and appropriately resolved for the Verizon employees.

My dad is retired Verizon as well.
He was a single parent.
The 1989-90 strike was almost 1 year long. He had a LI mortgage and I was a junior at Ithaca College (18K back then). He did any odd home improvement job for friends and family for $$$.
My heart goes out to the striking workers and their families. The Verizon strikes forever changed me. I'm very financially conservative, all because of what we went through.
The corporate higher-ups have enough. The working men and women deserve a livable wage.

My husband as well. What do you plan on doing for healthcare? I know so many VZ families on one income so they don't have any other options outside of cobra. The rates per that letter were intense! Good luck to you all!

There was an update this morning that said the company is not interested in any contract that will add any cost to the business. What the heck does that mean?
They are saying they are not going to agree to anything that will increase what they have to pay (whether that means in salary or benefits or time).

Verizon Strike
My dad is Verizon management. I sympathize with the families who are being affected by the strike however they need to stop the bullying. My dad was physically attacked the last time they went out and he fears the same thing again. Also, they definitely aren't the classiest bunch of people either, posting pics of their teenage kids holding up strike signs and giving the finger, publicly cursing out the CEO, and many more things I'm seeing. Perhaps they need to express themselves a little more professionally if they expect progress. And they should also recognize that not everyone has the luxury to sit around and picket all day long and that the "scab" who continues to work may only be doing so so that he doesn't lose his home, his family doesn't go hungry and his utilities stay on regardless of whether or not he agrees with the strike.

Agree. These workers do not have the backing of the Union and will lose their position immediately if the do not report to work. The company tells them where and when, they better show up. Working 12 hour days with no end in sight, it's not fun.

I do agree, but the people causing problems are surely a small fraction of the workers. My husband would never behave in they way you are describing!

Re: Verizon Strike
Of course not! Even though they make billions in profit every year, pay minimal taxes but yet they don't want to compensate their workers. Meanwhile this isn't even about wages. It's about job security, and being able to ship workers 100 miles from where they live. My husband works for Verizon, and we're pregnant with our 3rd baby. Being worried is an understatement. Not only are we going to be missing his income but my income with be substantially less because picking up my health insurance costs more. This is really a fight for the middle class and for anyone who thinks its not, is out of touch with reality. And to the poster who said these people are lacking class, have some empathy!! Put yourself in these workers shoes. I know for a fact my husband has a TON of class (wouldn't have married him if he didn't). I don't know what you or your SO does for a living but I truly hope that statement isn't you just masking your opinion of these jobs. Kinda sounds like you think you're better. To all the other families, we're in this together and I'm praying it can be settled quickly. Is it just me or does it seem like we have more public support than the strike in 2011?

I think (or hope) that people are slowly starting to see the reality of what these obscene CEO salaries and tax dodges are doing.
Found this about the Verizon CEO:
As Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS INC, Lowell C. McAdam made $18,260,568 in total compensation. Of this total $1,661,538 was received as a salary, $4,000,000 was received as a bonus, $0 was received in stock options, $12,000,065 was awarded as stock and $598,965 came from other types of compensation. This information is according to proxy statements filed for the 2015 fiscal year.

Sorry to turn this political but in your opinion which presidential candidate would truly fight for the middle class and not for the CEOs?
