Waking up crying in the middle of the night... why?
DD is 17 months and for the last couple weeks just about every other night or every few nights she'll wake up start whining and then full out cry for about 30 seconds to a minute and then suddenly stop and go back to sleep on her own. It's like she's doing it in her sleep almost.
Last night at 2am she stood up in the crib screamed her head off for about a minute and then layed back down and passed out... not a peep til we woke her up this morning. She wakes up happy.
Any ideas why she's doing that?

James does that as well. He'll do it for a few nights at a time and then go back to STTN.
DH and I just think that he might be having little nightmares.

I know. Like, what in their little happy world would make them cry out like that? It's heartbreaking.

Luce's been doing this but he won't go back to sleep.
it is KILLING me b/c it's on top of his already horrible sleep patterns. it's heartbreaking to, b/c he sounds either hurt or afraid.
if she's going back down, good for you! but I feel you..it's very disconcerting.

DS does the same thing when he's teething. He stands up, cries for a minute or two and then goes back to sleep. He is a very slow teether, so it seems to happen every few weeks for about a week or so. Sometimes every night, sometimes every other night.

My 18 month old does this sometimes as well, I think it's either a "nightmare" or possibly uncomfy gas or reflux.

Re: Waking up crying in the middle of the night... why?
Could be teething... she is finally getting some molars and her 4th bottom tooth, but she shows no signs of pain or anything during the day.

DS is 15 months and does this as well, I think it's nightmares. Usually he goes back down on his own but the other night I had to comfort him.

DS does that when his tummy is bothering him. Gas pains or being backed up. He also does it when he is teething...

Re: Waking up crying in the middle of the night... why?
DD has been doing this lately as well. I think it's her teeth. I feel bad, but I know that if I go in, she won't go back to sleep w/o a fight, but if I stay away, she'll fall back asleep, and sleep later in the a.m.

Re: Waking up crying in the middle of the night... why?
DS does it almost every night. Only, he doesn't fall back asleep. He belts out the most horrible scream I can't help it but run into his room. As soon as I pick him up he's ok, but he's always trembling. It's heart wrenching...

Reilly has been doing this as well for the past few weeks, I am really chalking it up to her teething! She has a bunch coming in at once right now.

DD does that - but only when she's teething. She's getting her molars right now Is that a possibility?
