Wall color / carpet color
Please help me. I have no design aesthetic.
Our bedroom is not too big and is the 2nd floor of a cape so it has slanted ceilings, making it feel even smaller. We are recarpeting and repainting - colors in beige / tan family for both. But DH and I disagree on the shades to choose:
Should the walls be a lighter color than the carpets, so the room appears brighter? Or should the carpets be a lighter color than the walls, to make floor space look bigger? Or does it not matter either way?
This is my inspiration photo, btw:

Re: Wall color / carpet color
I think if walls are lighter than carpets, it appears more bright - only because wall space takes up more room.
beautiful inspiration photo, BTW!! i'm sure whatever you pick will look great.
Maybe if you do the walls in a tan and the ceiling as a lighter tan, that will give the room more depth, also. That way, the slanted ceilings will be accented.

Re: Wall color / carpet color
I would do lighter wall color and a medium tone tan for the carpet. Just think that the carpet could get dirty with shoes which means washing the carpets more often. That would be my way of thinking at least.
I also like the above posters suggestion of the walls and the slanted ceilings. It will give the room some depth.

Re: Wall color / carpet color
I agree with the lighter colors. We looked at some homes with the slanted ceilings where they painted the room so dark I felt claustrophobic in there!
If you want some more design ideas, I have been saving pictures of gray/beige/purple/lavendar rooms in my album! Check them out!

Thanks for the ideas and the pictures!
You've definitely helped me narrow down and focus, which is great because this is all still so overwhelming.

Re: Wall color / carpet color
Love it Dava! really pretty. i'd do as PP said, paint the slants the same color, i think it'll give it continuity. how'd it go with the locksmith? i saw a van there yesterday, thought it could only be him...
You moved in yet??
