I go to Red Door Spa in Garden City - they are great!

The first time hurt but after that, it just gets easier!

I go there too... I started with waxes and each time i went she took a little more away so that by the time i had to guts to do the brazillian it wasn't that bad.

Wouldn't Nair be less painful?

Ummm, do not take any drugs or alcohol before getting waxed. It makes the pain even WORSE. Not to mention the fact that your sense of touch is completely intensified, and your skin is ALOT more sensitive.

i am confused, wouldn't drugs or alcohol help to numb the pain? i don't plan on drinking beforehand but will certainly take some advil or pain medication.

it's def helped me. nothing like a glass of wine (to relax) or some aleve to help.

The first time will hurt somewhat because I don't think that people fully know what to expect (and certainly depending on whether or not you're going fully bare or not). It does get easier each time.

Re: Want to take the Brazilian Plunge

I've gone a few times.

Actually, I used the aunt of a poster from LIW - anyone remember yabbobay???

Anyway, she used to work at bliss and then she set up a little "spa" in her house in hicksville.

The first two times it REALLY hurt, but it was my own fault - I used to shave "down there" Chat Icon and apparantly that makes the experience a little more painful...

All in all, it was worth it. I haven't been back in a while, I don't even know if she still does it, but I'd definitely go Brazilian again.

I second the motrin/advil/tylenol!

Edited for spelling

IMO, waxing works better. The hair grows back too fast with a depilatory cream/lotion. You may get a week w/o hair whereas w/ the waxing you can go 3+ weeks.

Re: Want to take the Brazilian Plunge

I went to a private lady, exit 65 off the LIE. She is amazing and for me, the "triangle" in the front hurt the most, when she did the brazilian part towards the back, it wasn't that bad.

And she is quite afforadable too.

They are not cheap IMO. ITs about $40 for a regular wax and $80 for brazilian. Supposabley they use a special wax that hurts less (i never went anywhere else so I couldn't confirm that) but they don't use strips....just a wax that firms up and then they pull it off.

are you referring to lavendar wax? in alot of places, they will charge you more for this wax. it's awesome though and totally worth it...

My brazilian is only like 60 bucks.
