washing old christening gown
My mom gave me MY christening gown , worn 28 years ago, for DD to wear. It looks like it'll fit and I do love it so I want her to wear it, but it needs to be washed. It's in good shape, but the collar is slightly yellowed. It's a polyester/cotton blend. The tag says machine wash warm, but would you wash it with to make it a little brighter that is also safe for DD's skin?

Re: washing old christening gown
I would wash it in Oxyclean and then rewash it in whatever baby detergent you use

Honestly - I would go to a dry cleaner that you trust and ask them what to do.
I would be devastated if I try it on my own and I ruined it

Re: washing old christening gown
i think my mom hand washed my gown for dd in dreft and then let it air dry, then lightly pressed it..it was in good shape beforehand and then after she did that you wouldnt believe it was mine from 28yrs ago. goodluck!

Re: washing old christening gown
put in the sink with warm water, bleach and detergent. spray the yellow areas with oxyclean before soaking. let it sit for about 20 minutes and then check the yellow areas. if still there spray again and rub the fabric together to get rid of stain. rinse with cold water and soak again in warm water and fabric softener for a few minutes. rinse and hang dry. should come out white and sparklingly clean.

I had the same situation when my DD was going to wear mine. I washed it by hand in Oxyclean and it came out beautiful. All the yellow was gone, it was amazing.

Re: washing old christening gown
I had the same issue--I soaked it in BIZ for like 3 weeks--changing water and adding more every time--came out brand new!
