Watching "17 kids and counting"... WTH??
The oldest boy just got engaged to Anna, and he had to ask her parents permission to hold the girls hand??? It was quite possibly the most awkward proposal ever. They didn't kiss, just hugged... they have to have a "chaperone" to go ANYWHERE. They are planning to "save their first kiss for the wedding".
I don't think I've ever been so weirded out by something so innocent... IDK - maybe it's just me.

Well, that family now has 19 kids and Josh & Anna had their first child!
Yep, their first kiss was on their wedding day. But obviously they are otherwise "normal" being that they have a child.

I know!
It's funny in subsequent episodes they hold hands but it looks like their hands are making out. There's some pent up sexual tension!
On their wedding day, he practically sprints for the car!

I watched it this morning while I was working out! I didn't know that they didn't hold hands before the engagement!
I think that is odd and I def saw frustration in the hand holding - I think if the sister was not there to keep an eye on them, then something would have happened.
And the hug after the proposal was not a full on hug - he kind of hugged her from the side like a "good job on getting that A on a test" hug

I was just watching it too. Lol. I was thinking how they were almost so close to kissing at times. It was weird. 
eta: I noticed the hand thing too. Lol. I was like who holds both hands like that. Guess they gotta do something with their hands.

They are conservative Baptists. The children are encouraged not to date, but rather to go through courtship, in which the young man seeks permission from the girl's father to begin a relationship. All meetings between a couple include a chaperone and they believe in abstaining from all physical interaction and intimacy until marriage.

I know its very extreme to us but I think its great that people actually value what they believe in and want to wait until they are married to do anything, even kiss. I would rather my kid be like that then sleep around anyday!

I know its great they have values but I get weirded out too. You have to read Josh and Anna's wedding website.
What would happen if they wanted to date "normally"? Sometimes they remind me of those polygamists in Texas (not the multiple wives part but the way they dress etc).

I know it is not the norm in our society and maybe a little extreme, but if given the choice, I'd rather have my kids be like that then jump in the sack with everyone they date.
