We are home with my little blueeyed baby!!
Our son, Andrew Joseph, finally made it into the world on July 3rd at 4:22am! He weighed 7 pounds (so much for the sono estimate of over 8 lbs!)  and is 20 inches long. He is such a good boy already!
I will post my birth story later, but here's a quick version--I went in for an induction at 1cm on Wednesday. They gave me cervidil and within 2 hours I was at 3cm and in horrible pain. Pain like I've never felt and never want to feel again. They gave me an epidural, which was the most wonderful thing I've ever received, and within hours I was at 10 cm and ready to push. The doctor told me it should take 12 pushes or less because everything was going so well--little did he know! I started pushing at 11:30pm and by 4am he still wasn't coming out. The epidural kept wearing off in spots but luckily they kept topping me off since I wasn't able to push when I was in pain. I knew something wasn't quite right and I kept saying he wasn't coming on his own--I was right.
The doctor came in and tried everything he could. I was amazed at how he took charge and knew just what to do to get me to keep pushing as I was BEYOND exhausted at that point. I kept begging them to use the vacuum or forceps because I knew he wasn't coming and I was not going for a c-section after going through all those hours of labor unless it was the last resort.
The doctor said I didn't have enough room for him to come out so he gave me an episiotomy--which my DH watched him do! He had to use the vacuum to get Andrew out--it turns out he had a shortened cord and couldn't come down the birth canal on his own. I knew in my heart during my labor that something wasn't right--and I was correct.
Andrew is perfect and healthy! He has a red mark on his head from the vacuum--we call it his war wound. It's almost gone now. I have no problems whatsoever with the doctor using the vacuum or giving me the episiotomy--they were necessary to get my son out safe and sound and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
I am healing really well--I was up, walking and took a shower less than 5 hours after delivery.
South Nassau was a dream--I didn't want to leave. Everyone was wonderful and the care that Andrew and I received was terrific. I will never deliver anywhere else. Even my family couldn't believe how helpful and patient the whole staff was and how nice the facilities were. The lactation consultants and nurses constantly stop by to see what you need and to offer you help--I loved that I never had to call for anyone because they always came to me first!
So in a nutshell--after 17 hours of labor and 5 HOURS of pushing, here is my pride and joy...

congrats!!!!!!! i am so glad you were able to have him the way you wanted.  he is gorgeous!!!! and i am also happy to hear about south nassau - i'll be there in about 2 months
go get some rest momma - you deserve it!!!
