We have a team!!! but I have a cervix ? UPDATED AGAIN.

So we went to the doc today and they were ab le to tell us that we are having twin Chat Icon Chat Icon
So its team pink for us and we are super excited.

BUT... the wind came out of my sail then they told me that at 18 weeks (now) my cervix is a bit shorter that it was 2 weeks ago.
Not drastically but a good difference and they want to monitor me closer. So I will be going every week for a while.

I'm nervous though. Have any of u multiples mommies had any experience with the cervix getting shorter fast than normal?
Did they make u do anything or tell u things to avoid?
I was just told to "take it easy" and we will see.

UPDATE: 01-21-11
1st of all thank you all for you responses!! u all rock!!

So, I went back to the doc yesterday and my cervix got a tiny bit short again. This week, I limited my work hours and when i was home i saw on my butt doing nothing!! So the fact that it shortened worries the docs.
Anyhoo... it was decided that we are going to move forward and do the cerclage before they miss the boat and its too late.
To be honest, I'm scared sh!tless!!!
I know its common, especially with multiples but I cant help but worry.. not so much for me but my little girls.

Updated again!! 01/27/11
UPDATE:
So I went to the hospital yesterday morning at 10am and had the procedure done. I was actually a lot calmer than I thought I would be and the only thing keeping me going was the thought that my little girls need me to do this so they can be ok. Just some patch up work on their temporary home. "

The anesthesiologist was great and he was making me laugh to keep me from freaking out. He did the spinal and I didn’t feel the shot at all. I just felt the medicine running down my leg.
I was able to move my legs the whole time but my whole bottom was numb so I didn’t feel what the docs were doing down there at all.
I was finally released from the hospital around 5pm after I peed. Apparently after a spinal the last thing to regain feeling in the bladder so they make sure u urinate b4 leaving.
Immediately after the procedure was done they brought in a sono machine and did a sono of the babies. They were trying to get it so i can hear the heartbeats but these little girls were ALL OVER!!!
i joked with the doc and said "of course after you tormented their mommy they are ready to come out fighting to defend me. LOL

The doc did tell me though that my cervix is very soft and that if I was to get preggo again even wth a single prgnancy they would most likey do a cerclage again.

Since last night I have been a bit crampy and sore and my back is very sore but these were all things to be expected.

Thank you girls for your prayers and warm wishes!! They def helped.

congrats on your twin Chat Icon Chat Icon

i actually had problems with a short cervix too.. so i had a cerclage (stitch in the cervix to keep it closed)

if your doctor wants to keep a close eye on it, then thats great!! by getting checked every week or 2 weeks is good and you will be fine. if it keeps shortening the doc can put in a cerclage. so its good that they caught this!!

congrats on the Chat Icon Chat Icon !

I have also had issues with my cervix since week 10 or so. I had a cerclage or stitch put in around 14 weeks. It is great that they are going to watch it closely.

The best thing is to when you rest to actually lay down so that there is no pressure on your cervix rather than sit.

Feel free to FM me if you have any questions.

Congrats again!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: We have a team!!! but I have a cervix ?

Congrats!!!!

I had to have my cervix watched with my first pg and now too. I'm pretty sure they can only do the cerclage up until 20-something weeks, but my OB said they won't put one in unless really necessary. If they are watching you that closely, that's a really good thing. You should definitely take it easy as much as you can. Chat Icon

Re: We have a team!!! but I have a cervix ?

At 15 weeks they got concerned about my cervix length. I was actually monitored twice a week for a while, and then it lengthened and I am not back to once a week/every other week (now 25 weeks).

I was on strict bed rest for 2 weeks after. Then I went back to work full time and was on bedrest after work and on the weekends. Then around 23 weeks it shortened again and I was on bedrest for a week and a half. Then I went back to work part time and best rest all other times from about 25 weeks till 32 weeeks.
now my cervix is holding strong and I am having BP issues so I am back on full time bed rest.

Sorry to ramble...I think it really depends on how short your cervix is and how far along you are! Do you see a high risk dr?

I am 18 weeks and they said that its not too worrisome but that fact that they saw a change so early one makes them proceed with caution. It went from 3.2-3.4 to 2.9-2.7. in two weeks so I Guess that a leap.
I only see the high risk doc every so often because until now all was great.
My doc called he high risk group and they agreed that the best way to move forward is to check me again in a week and take it from there.. so we will see i guess.

Thank u so much telling me about ur experience, at least I know I'm not alone going through it.

I had Chat Icon Chat Icon and a similar cervix issue. At 15 weeks I went from 3.4 to 2.7 and winded up having the stitch put in at 16 weeks and then being put on strict bedrest for the remainder of the pregnancy!!!! I was in preterm labor though and had a very riskly pregnancy to begin with. I wouldnt worry to much since you still have a decent cervical lenght and you are being monitored closely. Just take it easy each day.

Happy and Healthy 9 months!!!!

I was going to the gym 3 times a week just to do some light cardio. And when they told me I may have cervical problems I cut the gym out. Within a week my cervix had drastically improved. So I would say try to lay and relax as much as possible. The weight of the babies is what causes the stress on your cervix. It will then in turn shorten.

My cervix started to get shorter around 23 weeks. Then at week 24 it got really short again and i had to have an emergency cerclage. The week after my cerclage, my cervix went back to normal but i was on bed rest. The cerclage held well up until the day i delivered.

Definitely take it easy. Don't stand too long, don't lift anything, no cleaning. It can definitely help your cervix. My mistake was i would still clean a little here and there that week before the cerclage. I am sure that contributed to my cervix continuing to get shorter.

Congratulations on your twin Chat Icon Chat Icon !!!!!

Re: We have a team!!! but I have a cervix ?

i had a cerclage put in at 16 wks due to a shortening cervix...mine actually went from 2.7 to 1.9 in one week! i was on strict bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy bc even with the cerclage it continued to shorten (it was btwn 2.0-0.9, fluctuating every week). i ended up seeing the high risk dr 2x/wk for 20 wks, but that was bc i was having some other issues too.
my drs were all sure i would have my Chat Icon Chat Icon early and my water didnt break until i was 35 weeks - and even though my little guys were in the NICU they both came home the day after me perfectly healthy!

your dr is doing the best thing by having you monitored every week...it is a serious concern with twins, but as you can see from my experience and from most of the pp, if you are monitored often, everything will be OK. just make sure to take some time each day to rest and take the pressure off your cervix!

good luck and FM me if you have any questions!!

They will monitor you closely...It didnt happen with my twins but with my Son..single birth...and I made it to 39 weeks...so as long as your monitored and TAKE IT AS EASY AS POSSIBLE...theres a great chance nothing will worsen Chat Icon

Re: We have a team!!! but I have a cervix ? UPDATE

Sorry about the cerclage but I am glad to hear your doctors are being proactive about it. Dont worry about the procedure. I had some minor pain afterwards but they gave me percocet and I was fine. By the next day there was no pain at all. It def gave me peace of mind to know that my cervix was "protected" if you will.

Good luck with the procedure....you will be FINE!
